No, lesser fighters like Gomez, Prescott and Garcia. Maidana had Khan walking like a **** head and Peterson battered him. Anyway we won't find out about his progress anytime soon as Khan only likes to fight once a year.
The funny thing is you seem to believe he will become Mayweather at some point in his career. That's pretty hilarious.
He looked ok, nothing special. Few nice moves here and there. Still open to counter punches. Hunter shouting instructions constantly shows he's not got the greatest of faith in Amir's boxing brain. But there was times he did things and you thought ''Nicely done.'' as he pivoted out of trouble. Molina was cannon fodder really and Khan did what he had to do. The next fight i think we can then start making a few judgements on Hunters work with Khan.
At one point in the fight when Khan was backed on to the ropes, he had a nice tight guard and was countering the onslaught with uppercuts, I have never seen him do it as well as he did before. Id like to think it was a fluke but sadly I think its something he's worked on and implemented.
Khan has only been with Hunter a couple of months. Hunter already said that Khan needs to be training when he's not active. We need to give it time. Khan is not going to make huge improvements in 2 months. It's great he could win tonight as there was so much pressure and doubt on this fight. I see Khan was fighting on the inside a little better too. He needs time.
He still gets hit too much and leaves himself open, ask yourself, how many times did the little, non punching Molina land on his chin?
What fighter doesn't get hit? Khan is not an elusive fighter. There is no point trying to coat over that. But hopefully Hunter can teach him when NOT to throw that extra punch that sometimes causes him to get caught with needless shots.
My point is that nothing really changed for Amir, ok he showed a few new things but he has not improved on the one thing that causes him to get beat, protecting his chin and overall recklessness. People can rant and rave about his speed all they like, but his speed contributes to his downfall, when he's in the middle of one of theses powerless flurrys, his chin is in the air with a big sign saying ''hit me'' on it.
In many ways Molina was the wrong opponent for Khan if he was going to demonstrate to us what he had learned over the last couple of months. He couldnt pressure Khan and he was always going to be dominated.....We will only see what he is made of when he gets in with someone who applies pressure, because thats when he gets drawn in and it all goes pearshaped.
That's true, it will be interesting to see who he's matched with next? I think they will go straight for Garcia which will be a mistake as I feel that Garcia will still be able to time him again and land something big, withstanding Khan's attack to land his own. Matthysse? I think is the worst possible matchup for Khan, he is good at cutting the ring down and is a spite fall *******, I can't see Khan lasting more than 5 rounds. His best option is probably Peterson, its very winnable and a good measure of seeing if and how he has improved as you can compare the previous performance.
Wow what a left hook from Donaire! He needs a superfight now Mares or Rigondeaux. I thought Khan looked more relaxed and calm less wasted energy than usual,it will take time for improvements but not sure how much can be changed. One thing I was disappointed with was Billy Joe Saunders lack if bodyshots he could have made that fight a lot easier by committing to the body early on. It's also one of my pet hates when fighters head hunt i hate it.
Just watched the Khan fight & I liked what I saw. Hunter has got him talking a little walk when he needs to reset, he looked very calm & measured compared to his usual nervous-energetic approach. He did get caught clean a few times but he always will, you cant change a fighter's instincts & Amir wants to throw fast combinations. When he does he's upright & just doesnt see a lot of shots coming his way, anyone who trades with him will find him.
