In a way it reminds me of the cowardly route taken by Bernard Hopkins. Hopkins feasted in the weakest middleweight era of all time and not even the promise of career high payday was enough for him to man up and bring calzaghe to america in 2002 and fight the daddy at 168. Look Johnson was world class at LHW and a journeyman at SMW
J Taylor couldnt do a thing at SMW but was a top MW
Pascal couldnt do a thing at SMW but became world class at LHW
Same with C Woods

Hopkins wouldnt want to do the SMW run.
Look how Dawson was a SMW jumped away from Calzaghe to fight several old men at LHW and then years later tried it in a weak era at SMW and couldnt do it

When Roy was prime at LHW, Calzaghe wanted no part of moving up.. And it was not because the better fighters were at 168. DM and Roy Jones > the entire SMW division.

So what if Hopkins didn't want to do the "SMW run" he certainly didn't want to fight Roy at LHW either when it mattered..

He went 49-3 with victories over a 27-0 future champ and a world rated former champ.
Solid victories behind him, and was top 10 rated.
Veit had beaten undefeated Dziarra who wasnt a great fighter but did go on to beat L Mock and undefeated M Oral who would go on to challenge MW champs A Abraham and S Sylvester recently.
Veit had also beaten beaten undefeated Guerrero for the European union title.
Veit beat future title challenger Salem and Mock.
Veit also beat world rated C Brewer with an educated destructive 9th round KO.
A note on Veit. He only ever lost to world champs or fighters who became world champs and has victories over Mock, Salem, Perdermo (a future Kessler challenger), Brewer when Brewer was world rated and Veit beat undefeated Braehmer

And Veit fought him when he was a 9 fight novice!! lol!....AND only got a MD!!!!!!

Calzaghe was ridiculed for fighting the likes of Salem. Salem had already been beaten by Antwun Echols!!

The only mildly decent fighter that he even beat was Braehmer, and even that was only an MD,and Braehmer KO'd him in 4 in the rematch.

Of course Veit only got beaten by top fighters. Everyone else he fought was TERRIBLE!

If Deontay Wilder fights Wlad next, Gets KO'd in one round,he can retire saying "I was only ever beaten by the best fighter of the era,in my division"

shut it liceman, this was a good learning fight for Groves who is still learning his craft. Onwards and upwards, one thing's for sure, Groves isn't padding his record, he's taking tough fights each time.

Ward is going to find himself stuck between a rock and a hard place

- If he stays at 168, he faces a future unification showdown with Saint George Groves, imagine if Ward has to take that fight outside Oakland!? :shock:

- If he moves up to 175, he'll find himself in Clev's domain. If Ward struggled with the pace set by a slow, mechanical, one dimensional fighter like 36 year old Froch, imagine how he'll feel after 5 rounds with Clev?! Clev is unpredictable and isn't reliant on any one particular punch, what can Ward exploit?

Yes I agree, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ward at 160. Wouldn't it be ironic if he went down and got stopped at 160 because he killed himself making weight - similarly to how he treated Chad Dawson

Perhaps Groves should be following the route of top prospects in America like Deontay Wilder, Seth Mitchell, Peter Quillin, Canelo, Gary Russell jr and James Kirkland - 25+ fights into their career and haven't yet faced a live body :good

Great thing is, however you want to cut it, its still better than what the top 10 names were that I listed .
G Johnson had far more losses than Brewer when a world champ and to lesser SMWs, so that pwns you again.
Out of those names I listed in the current top 10, they havent done as much as Veit, so slate him all you like, it shows how weak todays era is.
Frochs eliminator to ward was a Mdec over old faded G Johnson and that today is called a big fight.
Sheikas eliminator to Calzaghe was a win over prime G Johnson and you forget that.
However you want to say it, Veit took Braehmers 0 and finished Brewer at the top. Did you see how Veit handled Brewer. Very conclussive
