Nobody is better qualified to answer that question than the absurdly iron chinned Yoshiaki Yatsu. Perhaps the best display of chin in the history of the sport.

I suppose he makes a case. But I'd rank Vovchanchyn, Carwin, Manhoef, Overeem, dos Santos (not in that order, off the top of my head) above him.

He was definitely a hard puncher. He traded off with noted K1 puncher Mike Bernardo and came out on top. He just lacked refinement of technique throughout his career. Very strong individual though.

As mentioned above - perhaps Vochanchyn is closest to being the Earnie Shavers of MMA. He ruined prime Mark Kerr not once but twice.

I don't know if Herrara took 1 punch.....those were all elbows ....I still cringe thinking about that fight.....Herrera is lucky to be alive.

A room full of guys were all stunned, lol , big daddy always a class act, not top five heaviest hitters but yeah he could hit and yep that was the most savage elbowing i can ever recall :thumbsup

I saw that fight live, on ppv, as well. I noticed something very quickly. I was awaiting the replay, and they did not show it. That is how savage those elbows were. The promotion immediately distanced themselves from them.

Yes excellent point way after the fact :good

If i remember right Gary could of gone harder at the end but stopped before the ref could really do much??? It was like a brutal bongage scene the position he got caught in. Gary could of held him there and calmly explained to him what he was going to do and still been able to do it. He couldnt get either arm out, he's wasnt flexible enough to try to tangle up Garys head and arms using his legs, he basically couldnt move, lol , plus Gary was in a PERFECT position to hammer him in the face as with his elbow as hard as he could and when Big Daddy realized that those elbows just began pumping back and forth like pistons  I felt my nuts try to climb back up into my body. Helpless, that guy was totally helpless, he basically only had the movement of his neck to try to defend himself against full on elbows from point blank range :scaredas: That was a awesome fight :hat

The brutality at the time shocked me as well, and not much else has, before or since.
