He genuinely believes it was a lucky shot that put him out as he said it again after the molina fight. he's never going to accept Garcia timed him with the perfect shot. Because of that he's never going to be wary of being hit with it, and will get caught again and again. The only way khan could have a chance of winning is if he stays out of range for 12 rounds, which is never going to happen.

    i disagree.

i'd actually favour khan 70% of the time.

Khan can beat garcia by just using his jabs and straight rights.

Dont even throw an upercut that can be timed with that hook.

In fact khan could just keep peppering him with the jab, keep fainting the straights and wait til garcia throws that hook then pepper him with the straight.

He's tear him up to a late round tko on cuts.

i'm actually quite confident that judah is going to beat garcia 1st by just out boxing him from a distance.

I partially agree with this. However this is much easier said than done. There were shots Molina hit him with on Saturday that, had it been Garcia doing the hitting, would have knocked him out again. Khan can beat most fighters with his incredibly fast and rangy jab and straight right - agreed. The problem is when they get inside that range he gets disorganised and starts hopping around.

To be fair on Khan I thought he showed improvements on his inside game on Saturday. He didn't just stand there getting hit with uppercuts; he threw some very nice uppercuts and doubled up the hook to the head and body when Molina was on his chest and then spun away. Nice. The problem is Molina has no power and some of the other 140lbers do, like, serious power.

Because of this I would also like to see him negate, as well as fight, someone when they are on the inside with him. Ward does this very well. He can rough you up close up but he can also hold you and get so close you can't get any leverage. Khan needs to learn to do this too because when he is at long range and starts popping off SENSIBLE combinations of 2's and 3's that are straight and accurate (and don't include silly uppercuts thrown out of range) following his jab, he is very tough to beat, especially when he combines that with darty in and out movement. (I believe Malignaggi was talking about this in an interview once - he said Khan was very long, extremely fast and when he was using in and out movement he was very difficult to deal with).

If you combined Khan's speed, ranginess, jab, lightning (sensible) combinations with the ability to fight (when there is less danger) and negate his opponent (when there is) on the inside AND managed to control his tendency to fight back immediately when hit or hurt, his general gung-ho attitude in fights that leave him wide open and improved his defence (so that he doesn't just rely on his legs all the time and can actually HOLD when he his hurt), then he could be very effective.

This is all theory though. It is another thing for Khan to control himself in the ring and not fight like a fool. He IS vulnerable, he doesn't have great punch resistance yet fights like he is Carl Froch and I struggle to believe that having managed to control Garcia for say 8 rounds in a rematch, he won't get silly, open up and walk on to the hook again. Khan has the ability to beat a lot of 140 pounders IMO. But he requires the right game plan which he must stick to, to do so. I for one think he is incapable, at this stage, of being as sensible and careful as he needs to be. This is silly, especially when he boxed so well and with more care at long range against Kotelnik and Malignaggi; now he is fighting big hitters he is getting careless. It makes no sense.

Garcia has openly said the reason he beat Khan was the supprise factor. But he just said he wouldn't have that this time round. Khans last fight was actually very good. Look at the attention to detail: When against the ropes he fought his way from trouble and looks good at it. He circles the ring like a southpaw protecting his chin from that hook. I would bet any money on Khan with the re-match!

Garcia would of course be the favourite, but 10 out of 10 is going a bit too far.

Khan's main problem isn't that he thinks it was a lucky shot (although it is stupid of him to continue saying that). His main problem is that his defensive awareness still isn't where it needs to be even if he knows the left-hook is what he has to watch out for. I mean, it's not like he didn't know about it going into the first fight. Roach warned him about it and trained him to avoid it. Khan just can't process two things at once. When he's attacking, his defensive walls are non-existent and he doesn't know what to do about the shots being returned.

Rematch will be even a better fight, but Khan has learned alot during Hunter, give him more time and he'll be ready for Garcia. It's either Khan by points or Garcia by stoppage :)

Khan's blows are lacerating; Khan is fully capable of shredding Garcia's face and stopping him late in the fight.

    Good post!

I don't think Khan genuinely believes it was a lucky shot, he just has to say that as a pose to saying "I lost to the better fighter." He was eating bombs before the stoppage and you could argue the case that had any of them landed square on his chin, he'd have been out of there sooner....

I think Khan having a bad chin is a misconception. The guy's only been KO'd by huge punches which you could argue would have knocked anyone out. He ate a monster overhand from Maidana and recovered from it and even though the ref stopped it (and rightfully so), he was still standing against Garcia. His drawback is that he is defensively flawed and too often leaves himself open to big punches. He's an exciting fighter but it plays against him when he comes up against someone who can cope with his speed and time a counter.

Khan has the tools to beat anyone at 140/147 (with the exception of May). He just appears to lack the discipline to stick to a gameplan and box a more boring, 12 round fight. I genuinely belive that if he did completely forget about trying to spark people out and play for a decision win, he'd do a lot better...

Cheers. I agree. To be fair on Khan he has been stopped by two massive punchers and has taken full on hooks to the chin with full torque (the hook being, in my opinion, the most dangerous punch of them all when it comes to ability to knock people spark out). The fact is though, even if we agree that Khan's chin is average, he is in a division with some huge punchers, all of whom are competent at throwing hard hooks (and indeed rights) and Khan just doesn't seem to see them coming. It is critical that he reduces the chance of those big punches finding the target, by, as you have said, planning and fighting for the decision win rather than the KO.

No way in the world Garcia would be favourite in this match. Its akin to saying rahman should ahve been favourite over lewis after knocking him out.

Khan schooled garcia vefore getting caught in terms of boxing ability there is no contest. The only questions are will garcia catch him again and is khan drainbed at the weight.

A fighter always beats a puncher even more so second time round!

Id say prices would be in region to 100 per cent draw no bet 1.57 khan and 2.75 garcia(4/7,7/4) should they fight.

the very first shot khan was hit with agaisnt molina and had him stepping back and looking a bit timid was... drums please... the left hook.

I am amazed at how many are being lured into thinking, that speed = skills. Khan is fast, but his skills are overrated and his chin is weak. Khan lacks the one thing, that he will never laern at shis stage of his career and thats compusure.

regarding the garcia fight, khan wasnt schooling anyone, he had the upperhand, but garcia knew what he was doing, he let khan initiate and then he would trade. It took a coupkle of rounds, but he got there and i think he would be able to replicate that feat.

9 times out of 10 Khan schools LEFT HOOK ONLY GARCIA..

You don't hit the Lotto 2 times, Garcia not landing a NECK PUNCH AGAIN.

Watch the first fight Garcia landed that left many times on Khan's CHIN WITH NO EFFECT.
