Why doesn’t Mayweather get credit for calling Manny out on May 5th?

Firstly let me apologise for clogging up the general with another Floyd v Manny thread, but I think my point is a genuine one.

Before Mayweather signed to fight Cotto, he publicly called out Manny Pacquiao, as did Leonard Ellebre & the rest of the Golden Boy crew. At that time, neither fighter was signed to fight anybody else, and the fight was there to be made.

I keep hearing about how Manny is agreed to unlimited testing, and less of the split. But how come this always seems to be when either party is signed to fight someone else.

Can any Pacquaio fan explain to me why the fight wasn’t made for May 5th?

Its funny because Bob Arum publicly said he wanted the fight but due to Floyds impending prison sentence it wasn’t possible. Once it got put back, he started to come out with all types of excuses:

    · Manny’s cut needs time to heel
    · We need to build an outdoor stadium etc.

    Thanks

Uh...Floyd called Pacquaio out multiple times and then always had excuses.

Why the **** should he get credit?

    Is this a joke?

If Floyd fights Canelo, he gets credit in my book.

If he fights Guerrero, well typical Floyd. Talkin ****, then pullin a ***** move.

"Calling out" means so much.

Pacquiao and Mayweather both get "discredit" for not making the fight.

I think Aaron Pryor should get "credit" for repeatedly "calling out" Ray Leonard and then turning down the contract.

I think what the OP is saying is that he made a concrete, public attempt to make the fight and to PUBLICALLY say he wanted Pac on May 5th

And what was returned, to my knowledge, was excuses

If the case had been that team Floyd called out Pac, and team Pac said lets go...then fair enough

But team Pac said the exact opposite

Around the time Floyd lowballed Pac with an offer of 40 million flat, however the public reaction from Arum tells you they wouldn't have made the fight regardless

Floyd won't work with Arum, Arum won't work with Floyd

All that needs to be said really

Because people that dont live in reality cant understand that Bob Arum never wanted it.

What was the reasoning why ARUM didnt want to make the DelaHoya/Floyd fight?

Floyd definitely isn't 100% responsible for it not happening. I honestly think Pacquiao would've taken it ay any point, but he wasn't keen enough on it to bother standing up for himself to Top Rank and Arum to get it done and he remains subservient to this day. Floyd's $40 million offer was on some 'I'm bigger than you' boss-type **** to me. Could Pacquiao of said yes and gone to make the fight even if he wanted to? He very much works for Arum.

I cant see why anyone would blame either side directly

its a bunch of bull**** politic's between golden boy and top rank that stopped the super fight and will even stop future big fights unless something changes

I don't think Schaefer had any problem making the fight at any point.

Who the hell could ever forget Arum's "Why is Schaefer calling me?" :rofl

"Floyd can't fight May 5th because of his jail sentence"

Floyd postpones it to June 1st.

    "Pacquiao has cuts!"

    C'mon man.

Didn't Floyd have an interview where a kid whom had cancer was asking him about fighting Pac... And floyd said he was going to retire, and the kid looked like he was about to cry???
Didn't Floyd say "health comes first." in another interview?

To be fair it's Arums and Floyds fault. I do think Pac wanted the fight. Arum is hard to work with though, and Floyd don't budge when it comes to $. Even after Manny finally accepted the tests, I knew $ would be such a big issue. Hopefully Manny comes back, and now that he lost, $ won't be an issue.
Maybe Floyd did want the fight... Though I think if he did it would of happened by now. BUT regardless the guy just wouldn't let up on demands, and when they supposedly gave in to one demand... Another one pops up.
