You're perfectly entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to challenge it.

The reality is Burns has not fought since September, is currently in shape and would have 2 months to prepare for a fight with Broner. In my opinion, there's no grounds for saying it's unrealistic.

I ignored your question because it's not relevant because Burns didn't fight. What's the point in addressing fantasy questions?

I've made it pretty clear how I feel about tonight's announcement but I'd have to disagree with the assertion that Ricky doesn't want the fight.
Some fighters can ignore criticism but the connotations of this announcement will hurt Ricky.
I think anyone who knows or has met Ricky would disagree with that point.
But Alex and the promoter are leaving him wide open to undeserved criticism.

Frank said it's Ricky's decision apparently..Morrison has clearly talked Burns out of the fight, imagine Hearn saying tthat to Froch? Fast Eddie would be sacked, swiftly.

 It's funny to me how posters trust Frank when it suits their agenda.

Hennessey got Froch big fight after big fight on Showtime. Yet, he fired him when Hearn said he could get him more money and on Sky. Yea, he's a PURE WARRIOR!

These guys have a short career, don't b so naive that Froch is some iron-clad beast. He ended up in the S6 because he had no other way to get the big fights.

  6. ****** wants the broner fight - dunno if he is looking to cash in on burns , but if he looses he will move up and blame the weight
this morrison fella ( who is this bloke ) seems to be main voice against broner at this time, might be for the best as is not too far away

When did i say I trust Frank?

My point about Froch was that he would never duck another champion, your just going off topic to suit your own agenda.

So because he entered the super 6 and faced the best fighters in the weight class, makes him less of a warrior? Great logic DF!

And Froch couldn't get big fights without the super 6? He fought Pascal on ITV, defended on Showtime against Taylor, they were pretty big fights.

With Froch yes the S6 was a blessing it gave him a chance to fight the best but you have to give him credit for sticking with it till the end, you can't say the same for some of the original line up.

    Your first sentence was:

How else should I interpret that? Sounds like you think he's telling the truth, which means you're being selective in what you believe.

I'm not going off topic either. You said:

You brought it up! your point is just speculation anyway. Yes, he's fought a great run, but it wasn't through choice - those fights happened because he couldn't get arrested on UK TV and couldn't get the big fights on his own merit.

    Sly edit, by the way...

Now, did I say that? I was simply pointing out that he's not solely concerned with just big fights. He's also motivated by money and acclaim. Reasonably so, I'd say. You;re the one who made out he'd fire Hearn simply for encouraging him to take an easier fight. Utter idiocy.

History seems to have eluded you. He did get the Pascal fight, then he couldn't get any UK coverage for the defence against Taylor. ITV bought the rights at the last minute, and broadcast it the following day for a bargain basement price. He took the short money against Taylor, because he couldn't raise enough to tempt Taylor over to the UK (or force him to abandon his mandatory spot) without TV money. That's why he ended up on Showtime, not because he was a guy the networks were interested in.

Same reason Showtime weren't interested in Froch-Bute and it ended up on Epix. These are facts. He was not a draw, he brought no TV to the table, and had no chance of getting back on US TV without a belt.

His attitude is admirable, but let's not make out he's a lone samurai who only cares for honour in battle.

That's his manager and IMO the main obstacle at this point because whatever happens,it would take an epic fallout for Ricky to leave him because to be fair,he stood by Ricky when he was seen as damaged goods after the losses(which was bul****)
He's also been close with the promoter for at least 20 years.
Not saying it's right but up until now Alex has done OK by Ricky.

Thinking someone is telling the truth on a certain subject doesn't mean you trust them..:huh

It wasn't through choice that he entered the super 6? Was he forced at gunpoint? I wasn't aware.

Your getting away from my original point, Froch would never duck another boxer, thats a fact.

So why do you trust him now? What in the circumstances makes you think that Burns wouldn't want to fight Broner? He's never shown any hesitation in taking difficult fights before.

Don't be disingenuous. He had few options without S6. He was a beltholder and one that didn't generate much money from TV. He really needed it if he wanted the big fights. He only got invited because of the belt.

But I admired how he stuck with it. I love Froch.

He's never been in a position to duck another fighter. He's generally needed to take those fights. He's a throwback in that regard.

Ricky Burns will not make a unification fight with American champion Adrien Broner his next fight.

The WBO lightweight champion of the world will not take on Broner, the WBC belt-holder, until at least April.
Burns was due to fight in London on Saturday but his defence was cancelled after two potential opponents withdrew.
Promoter Alex Morrison said the decision was taken by Burns, 29, who wanted another defence before going for the unified titles.

Morrison said: “I spoke to Ricky this morning and we decided he will not be fighting Adrian Broner in February.
“Ricky didn’t want to jump from a non-event to the biggest fight of his life in a matter of weeks.
“He’ll make a defence of his title in Glasgow in January and we’ll look at Broner after that.”
Where the potential fight between the two world champions is held is still a matter for debate – but Morrison has named his price for Burns to jet to the USA for the match up.
He added: “Ricky will fight in America if the money is right.
“That’s £400,000 net, after fees, after tax. We could be looking at April.”
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

I honestly cringed reading that. Not only Burns turning down the fight, but old Alex effectively pricing them out of a Broner fight in the future too, a double whammy:-(
I wont post my thoughts right now, I need time to digest this news & its implications before giving my final verdict on this.
