Whats wrong with that. He was prepping for months for a different opponent an you want him to cruise into a fight with Broner. An he wants money to travel to the US. so what?

That's a very balanced and well though out post mate.
Even as a Burns fan,I'm liking that post a lot, because I've never been sure Ricky could win,but even with the points I disagree with, the post makes a great deal of sense.
I still believe Ricky wants the fight though,February was never a viable option given the wasted camp and the fact that Broner could well hand him his first loss as a champion.
If you're going into the lion's den,you should have top level preparation.
    Ricky isn't Gary Sykes.

The economics are very do-able. Broner has HBO and I'm sure Burns will bring a UK station to the table.

I'm agreeing with you about wanting a tune up fight. This is December. Ricky was just in camp. Fighting in February is perfectly reasonable.

maybe Burns has to cycle off because Broner will prob ask Ricky to "take the test"

Not touching that with a 10 foot pole.

And I don't really get your fascination with Ricky. All but the die hard team elite guys consider Broner to the superior fighter and nobody really respects their opinions much anyway.

It's pretty clear that Burns and his people have no desire to fight Broner at this time. They are asking for $650,000 after taxes and fees. By fighting in the U.S, 30% of the purse will be witheld for federal taxes. With trainer fees and all of that, you're talking about around 40% total with taxes and fees. So we're talking about an almost $1.1MM purse for Burns. That's not happening. So he's pricing himself out. I can't blame him though. It would be a very tough fight for Burns. If he's going to take another loss(possibly an embarrasing loss at that), then he'll need to get paid a **** load of money.

I am not obsessed with the kid he would get his ass kicked by Broner just pointing these things out now so people cant say he ducked Ricky.

    I never said obsessed.

Yeah, the only ones who will say Broner ducked Ricky are the team elite guys. And they think actual ATG's ducked Slappy, so consider the source.

His purse request is not that unreasonable but if he wants that after fees and tax then thats over $1 million which is quite alot, even though it is a unification bout and would be broadcast on HBO, Broner obviously will be making the lions share of the purse from the American Money, but I don't know what the TV rights in the UK pay but that could help Burns by having multiple income streams.

Broner should go about his business and fight Abril if that can be made. Make evaluations and decisions after that.

If he beats Abril, and is ready to move up in class, and a bigger fight can be made, forget Ricky.
