How can Martinez fight the way he fights at age 37?

His whole Style is based on athleticism. He drops his hands and relies on his reflexes as Defence and counters with fast combos.
They say the first thing a fighter loses is his athleticism but Sergio is nearly 38 years old. Roy was a freak of nature but was pretty much shot to **** at age 33-34. Could the reason be that he started Boxing at a late age?

    Thoughts?

Could be but one thing is that he has great stamina. Probably from playing soccer for all those years running all damn day.

It's not all athleticism as he has immense ring IQ. Obviously, though, he was a late starter in boxing and has taken less punches than most.

He also slows down and confuses his opponents by making them doubt their sexuality in the ring.

He has a great engine for sure and i can't help but feel it is partly to do with his love of riding bikes.. I watched the 24/7 thing with great interest when he announced that he loved cycling and was very good at it. I race bikes myself so know how good it is for general all round fitness, plus it gives great strength to the legs and core.

Another of my favourite fighters (froch) recently announced that he was now doing 25km bike rides instead of his usual road work and was reaping great benefits by doing so. He said that he felt loads stronger in the legs and was beating all of his personal bests in training.. He too aint no spring chicken yet looks to be as fit as ever.

Probably starting boxing way late has helped him greatly. Didn't RJJ win the Olympics (or should of) at like 17? He was boxing since he was a kid.
Martinez is a workout machine unlike a lot of boxers. He trains when a lot of boxers take time off and is constantly in shape.

Quick feet and tremendous stamina + a late start = a young 37.

Father time will catch up to him eventually, but in boxing years he is younger than his age.

Some people are just born with tremendous VO2 uptake capability. (bike riding & other tough aerobic sports add to this by increasing the number of capillaries in your muscles)

Some people are born with almost super-human reflexes.

Some people have the will & dedication to train incredibly hard, all the time.

A very few have all three of these qualities. It happens.

Think the cycling/soccer has a lot to do with it.. Starting late also probably had something to do with it.

I would think avoiding brawling when he didnt need to(early in his career obv. that changed in late 00' he loves a good fight now) to think people once said he was boring is nuts when you see his last 10 fights or so. but outboxing the outclassed instead of out fighting them may have helped...............I'm an idiot i actually thought this was about marquez, my fault but i changed it to late 00's and it kinda works for sergio too....prob my last post haha but i love reading the banter

Roids... No way he become a phenom at age 35 etc. He is on some **** no doubt. It is amazing how gullible the boxing public can be in this day and age. Everybody is an "all natural" giant killer coming up from 105lbs and beating 175lb asses in 2012. LMAO!

Come on people... stop buying bull****.
