What stopped Cotto From being a great?

unfortunately for cotto, he tends to get cut up, and also seemed to go into panic mode when it felt like the opponent wasn't respecting his power.

He was not handed P4P ranking while fighting janitors.

 

He was a very good fighter , but he was just a notch below the top level. He's certified HOF but he just wasn't special enough to be ATG.

 

He made a career of winning vacant titles against bums, once he stepped up in competition he lost. 3 of his 4 titles were vacant, the only champion he beat was Yuri foreman. I think that says it all. In order to be an ATG you need a win against a prime ATG

 

He wouldn't have been great with or without Margarito. His flaws would have come out eventually - he would have run into someone like Pacquiao, or some other guy that would have given him problems.

 

You know who is a really mediocre fighter is that Demetrius Andrade. Really an embodiment of this poor era in boxing history.

 

Look up the opposition for those vacant titles and his defenses, he was brought up the hard way. Cotto beat plenty of guys who went on to become champions later as well.

 

Are you trying to say that beating did not diminish him as a fighter? Pac is the worst example of all at that time in his career.

 

Possibly, but I still believe he would have enhanced his legacy by defeating Hatton at 140 and staying there for a couple more years. By the time a Margo showdown becomes a possibility, the hand wrap situation would have already been resolved and the outcome may have been very different. Of course hindsight's always 20/20.

Please look over his wins at 140, then do a little research. None of them are atgs but I assure you that none of them are bums.
