Saw in the times and Mail(online) today that Golden boy have applied for promoters license with the british board They have had talks with channel 5 , SKY and others. Schaefer said he is exited by BT's new sports channel plans They also plan to target GB olympic boxers with most charisma The plan is to have shows here and then to have the uk fighters on GB cards in the US If they can get with a good tv comp i think this could do well Thoughts ?
BT or Sky but the way things are going for fight fans we are getting ****ed over big time. With each promotions on different stations it means for some people the subs for boxing alone is getting bigger and bigger. You would hope in a ideal world if they were to do anything it would with Sky. They are already linked with Khan and even if my memory is right arent they linked up with Hatton Promotions too??? I would guess it would be more so either Sky or ESPN since they have lost the football from next season on.
readfew articles on this also, with them wanting to sign Ogogo and Joshua to there ranks, although again papers say Ogogo wont be going pro anytime soon still be good to have GBP over here, could make way for some top fights here
Though Haye is "under contract" to GDP as a fighter, I don't think that Hayemaker Promotions is a subsidiary or organisational affiliate of GDP. If Hayemaker Promotions are, a link would be great.
I hope they don't end up on the BT channel as that's another subscription to fork out for- Channel 5 obviously would be the best choice as regards to exposure but I suspect Sky are the favourites if they set up in the UK.
Maybe Golden Boy's shows will end up on BoxNation. I can also see some of Frank's shows ending up on BT Sports. I'm not sure if this is good idea. The opportunity for fighters and fans is great. However the market seems to be getting over subscribed. Is boxing popular enough for this many promoters and so many channels? For the hardcore fans it's certainly boom time.
I'm hoping that with the new funding and state of amateur boxing it will entice the BBC or ITV back into the game, mind you I could be pissing in the wind?
