It was more marketable for him to emphasize his Irish roots than being from Nova Scotia. The rivalry between Jewish, Italian and Irish fighters was a big deal and Jimmy sure capitalized on it. He was notorious for bumping off Jewish fighters, especially the great Benny Leonard, that is until Barney Ross came along.
