Why do people feel Rigondeaux is more deserving of a Donaire fight than Mares?

because Mares would be too easy a fight for Donaire.

It is just not interesting.

Rigo - Donaire is interesting.

 

I don't think he's more deserving of a fight than Mares. But I do think it's a better fight. Although both are brilliant fights to be fair.

Name the fighters that Rigondeaux has beaten that are that much better than Munroe and Molitor? 2 guys Quigg and Frampton beat in impressive fashion.

 

In all honesty neither have much of a chance and Mares would make for a better action fight. I see Rigondeaux refusing to engage Donaire the way that Nishioka did for 12 rounds never opening up after tasting his power. Not to the extent that Navarez did but I can see him taking a lot of stick for his performance whereas Mares would go down swinging.

I think Rigo has 25% chance of winning. Mares has about 3%.

If this was a perfect world it would be Rigo/Mares with the winner facing Donaire. But because of the promotional rivalry we will likely only get Rigo/Donaire. It's not that he deserves it more, it's just the most likely.

Shame because I would love a combination of the three facing each other.

 

Corodoba- 18 months removed from a TKO loss to Bernard Dunne. Who then lost his next fight by third round KO. Rigondeaux got an SD that could have gone either way and was knocked down with a jab.

Ramos- not a current world champion, was a paper titlist after winning it with a lucky punch against Shimoda who was absolutely dominating him. Shimoda himself had won it on an upset for Ryo Li Lee, who himself had won it on an upset against Poonsawat Kratingdaeggym.

Casey- D Level fighter. Plus European champ? Big deal, how many European's do you think can get down to Super Bantamweight? Boxrec has 71 Europeans in the division out of 1080- which equates to about 5 percent.

Marroquin- D Level fighter, had lost to a journeyman with a 14-5 record a year prior.

Munroe- Only beaten once since 2006 in a Japan against Nishioka. Beat Victor Terrzas by TKO who then went onto defeat Montiel and Cermano (two world class fighters) and is currently rated in the top 10 of the division

Molitor- Number 9 in The Ring's top 10 when Frampton annihlated him. Has 2 victories over Ndlovu who remains in the top 10. Only 2 fights removed from losing the IBF title.

 

If your referring to the 1st fight- no he didn't it was Russell Mora's **** reffing. If you judge fights how they are suppose to be judged then Mares was at least 5 to 1 rounds up at the 6th round and had a knockdown.

Agbeko made a comeback in the second half of the fight but Mares got another knockdown even though it was a low blow it should be called a knockdown if the ref calls it. Therefore he won the fight on the scorecards.

To end the controversy Mares fought him in a rematch- something which Cloud wouldn't grant Campillo, Rios wouldn't grant Abril, in actual robberies or Kirkland wouldn't grant Molina- in a match decided by a bad ref.

And Mares won the rematch without any controversy.

 

Rigondeaux is better than Mares.

Mares "deserves" a Donaire payday more based on his accomplishments.

 

1. Not too sure about that. Would you have not said Moreno was better than Mares prior to Mares-Moreno. I know I was expecting Moreno victory, plus I thought Agbeko would win in the rematch. I write Mares off at my preil now. He's like a little Carl Froch.
