aye or his fanboys, who cannot and will not be told otherwise.
something we'll just have to live with for now.
but aye people need to know what's going on, from at least someone connected to the burns camp.

The problem isn't with Burns himself, its the team around him, Frank don't want the fight with Broner, why risk somebody who earns him decent money, when he can let loose the WBO matchmaker of the year and overall bald Alien, Dean Powell to make soft matching in Glasgow for a few years.

Good business sense but it's at the expense of the fans that want to see Ricky prove himself against the best possible opponents. A loss to Broner isn't the end of the world, fighters win and fighters lose, its boxing at the end of the day.

There's literally no reason not to take this fight, other than his team lacking confidence in his ability to win it.

The money is good, he's showcasing himself to a new audience and has the chance to knock over a complete twat, with twattish fans, who is being hyped up to the eyeballs by all and sundry, many of whom probably haven't seen him fight.

''Yo man, he the nex' Mayweather''

Err... no. Floyd Sr is 60 and he's got better footwork ffs!

I think that it won't be too damaging if, firstly, they fight him eventually, and secondly, get a respectable enough opponent for this supposedly interim fight.

If he fights a turd or two, people will see him similarly to how Riddick Bowe avoided Lewis, fighting a shot gatekeeper in Dokes, and a domestic level Jesse Ferguson.

Whether Burns is "ducking" or just biding his time and waiting until the momentum is in his favour really comes down to who or what you believe.

I think he is up for fighting Broner but he also realises that should he lose that fight and his belt he is going to struggle to get back to that kind of level of pay day. The man needs to look after himself and his family, boxing is a short career and I personally wouldn't hold it against him if he took two more fights in Glasgow and then had a fight with Broner in the summer.

Eubank and Calzaghe did this for years and years and while they are criticised by some
on here for not taking some of the bigger fights they had available to them (including myself), not many people would go as far as to call them "duckers" or suggest they did this out of fear.

I'd like to see him fight Broner because I think he is beatable, Ponce De Leon showed he isn't the big second coming of SRL that people make him out to be and Burns can definitely be competitive with him. If that happens sometime next year then that's all good in my book. Boxing fans just want everything now, if its not the next fight it's a duck, if it's not an opponent in the top 10 it's cherry picking etc.

Can any one on here not see that preparing for a Dec fight that got cancelled and not having fought since Sep isn't the best prep for the biggest fight of your career? I can see the reasoning behind wanting it after the next fight and the fight is only getting get more hyped, sell more tickets, and be be bigger news if that's what happens.

A lot will depend on who he does fight next, it has to be somebody respectable to make people put the Broner fight to the back of their minds, if come January and say Liam Walsh or Jose Ocampo get the call then people quite rightly will moan.

I think lack of faith is exactly what's going on, what other explanation is there for Liam Walsh?

A good interim fight would be Beltran I think. Decent enough ranking and a pretty easy nights work IMO.

Still don't see any negatives for the Broner fight. Even being competitive against 'the next mayweather' would be great exposure for him.

    Agreed Bill!

I was critical of his decision to fight Walsh and feel he should be looking at fighting some winnable but more high profile and competitive match ups like Linares, DeMarco etc. if only to build the Broner fight in to a bigger event.

The thing that seems odd to me is that he is going to go straight to the states and fight Broner. If I were him I'd be looking at getting some exposure on american TV first, asking for £500k or whatever it was might be more feasible if the general american public had heard of him/seen him fight before!

Too much focus is put on a potential defeat when in reality it is not the end of the world, Darren Barker went to the U.S and took on Martinez, he lost but at the same time got major kudo's for taking the fight and is more marketable now than he was before.

Walsh in the same stable as Burns, if made sense for his promoter to do an in house fight and get him out again before Xmas. They obviously felt that after the Mitchell fight they could get away with an easier defence next time around and not get too much criticism. Didn't really work out like that though, even Burns seemed pissed to be fighting him!

I agree with this, put Broner and Burn's on the same card against different but similar opposition and wet the appetite of the public, it generates more cash and the publicity that Burns needs stateside.

Absolutely, get them both on the same card, get them in each other's faces in the ring and make it a big deal!

If the american public can understand a word that Burns is saying without subtitles then that kind of build up can turn a fight into a super fight, look at Haye/Chisora!

It's almost too simple the only thing that stops it, is the Greed of certain management. ;)

Exactly. Get Burns' name out there in the states as a legitimate threat to Broner and the fight could become huge.
