There's definitely a lot of bitterness about the Pacquiao KO, but a lot of misguided bull**** being spouted too. PEDs magically giving people hands of stone, JMM turning into a monster despite the visual evidence showing very little difference in his body etc. Sensationalist nonsense. I know JMM's win hurt a lot of people, but that's no excuse to try to tear down a fighter using circumstantial evidence and hearsay. Questioning Heredia's past is one thing, but all that other 'evidence' is absolute BS.

"You can say anything you want, if you have no proof, it means nothing.", says Marquez. Angel Herida, Marquez's trainer, would also repeat the "you have no proof" sentiment.
"I'm not going to share my [training] secrets with other trainers", proclaimed Angel Herida, the disgraced former(?) Performance-Enhancing Drug distributing trainer, who got caught and decided to roll over on the very athletes who entrusted his methods, rather than man up and take the consequences of his own actions himself, the way Victor Conte, the other trainer in the BALCO investigation, did. Conte refused to roll over on the athletes that entrusted him.
Angel Herida, or Angel Hernandez, wichever name he's using, learned a very important lesson from his involvement with drug prosecution in America: if you get busted here, go ply your trade south of the Border.
One can almost even sympathize with Juan Manuel Marquez for taking the route that he did. In their first 3 fights, he did in fact, land the cleaner, more devisive punches. And his is a modest style that can never impress judges the way a more engaging, offensive style like Pacquiao's can. You can almost side with Marquez, having the belief that American judges were never going to give him the benefit of the doubt. But just as I say that, there were many boxing writers who were saying the judges would probably start granting close rounds to Marquez this time.
Marquez could always connect on Pacquiao. He could always catch him. Problem is, Pacquiao could always take a mean punch and not go down, even from middle-weight-sized fighters (Margarito). Marquez could never drop him, no matter how cleanly he connected, no matter how many rounds, no matter how many fights. Til Marquez got with the program, that is.
I'm talking about that shady, unscrupulous, clandestine program that many boxers pursue to get every possible athletic advantage that's out there, no matter how legitimate. The program that involves needles.
Angel Herida finds Mexico a much more accomodating, liberating enviornment for a man with his, um, "specialties". Also quite liberating is the fact that the banned substances Herida has admitted to in the past are undetectible by a day's time.
So you got a 39 year old fighter who's never had stunning knockout power, even in his prime, emerging from training with exaggerated physical features, rediculous muscle mass for someone in his age/weight range. All top and very little distribution on the bottom, a-la Roger Mayweather.

Any of you out there in readership land ever trained, both as a young man, and throughout middle-age? Or have ever educated yourselves about the realities of hard training during both youth and middle-age? If you did, you would know that, somewhere between the late-20's to early-30's the body loses it's ability to quickly bounce back from grueling training sessions, often requiring several days to recover from the intensity of such training. For a boxer, this would normally present a real problem, for they cannot just take off days at a time from their training. But you use things like Human Growth Horomone (HGH) and that changes everything. Suddenly, your body has the same recovery time as it did during your early-twenties. By administering testosterone, aging athletes can compensate for declining testosterone levels that are in decline by age 30. And steroids can give you the added mass and strength you were never meant to have naturally.

The facts are clear: Marquez's trainer is a confessed steroid administrator, who now uses an alias, who recently spoke of refusing to devulge his current training methods, who's current protogee just emerged from his training with exaggerated physique and one-punch knockout power (a talent he's almost never displayed with anyone other than journeymen) and who just annhialated a fighter who is simply un-droppable, with both a knockdown and a crushing knockout. And, let us not look past those staggering amounts of weight Marquez was seen squatting during episodes of "24/7". Many writers in boxing spoke out about how unusual it was for a lower-weight boxer to be squatting with that level of weights. And let us take into account Pacquiao's evenly-distributed mass, both in his legs and on top. Marquez's upper body looked as wide as a highway road map on Dec. 8th.

Manny Pacquiao was out cold for some two minutes. On saturday, Dec. 8th, Manny Pacquiao was dethroned by a fighter that he had never faced before, one with physical gifts that were clearly not organically his own.

And lastly, what innocent man deflects accusations with a statement like "You have no proof". An innocent man becomes indignant and insulted, and gives statements of affirmation that he would never concede to doing such a thing, and would go on to assert how much he dedicated himself to his legitimate training. It is only a guilty man who asserts that his accusers are wrong because they have "No proof" - such are the sensibilities of the guilty when they know they're the only ones who have access to the evidence.
It was also very notable how Marquez was quick to boast that he would "take the test now", to many different people, with full implicit knowledge of the short half-life those substances have.

Good post. Had Team Pac been open to random testing since asked in 2010, he could have took boxing and his legacy to extraordinary heights. However, the lure of the underworld and money took him out of his character. Not a diss to Pac who like us all is human and tempatation is a b--ch!. But he had an opportunity to make a stand (or call Floyd's bluff) and didn't.

Can top elite boxers get away with using peds any more... Its very unlikely Pac had a good run using them but he had to get off them and his carrer slowly when down the pan..

It's funny how you take every word Heredia of all people says in one interview as fact, but won't let your pig headed views be swayed by anyone else. People like to exaggerate their expertise level on something when there's media in front of them. And again, for the millionth time, something someone does in the past does not dictate what he does now. He is also actually a very good, legitimate S&C coach too.

I think some are a bit suspicious about his "strength" coach... and his claims of undetectable PEDs. I also think Marquez developing one punch power at 40 yrs old is a bit curious.

Except he never developed one punch KO power...He's as much of a one punch KO power puncher as Sergio Martinez is.

A perfectly timed shot with full force behind it landing on somebody lounging in recklessly not expecting that shot coming = that somebody getting put to sleep. Anyone who understands their boxing should know this, which i dont expect you to.

if Marquez is on roids then it proves how a level playing field would pan out. Manny has been roided up for years. JMM was able to unoffically beat a roided Pacquiao twice before and put an exclamation point on it by playing on an even playing field! That is of course if JMM is on any juice.
