Note: Adamek vs. Cunningham is an *AFTERNOON* broadcast, live on NBC

A couple of things to be aware of:

• The card is airing on regular NBC, the network flagship - not NBC Sports.

• It is airing live from 4pm-6pm EST - very, very, very early for an American boxing show. This is despite being in the United States (in Bethlehem, PA) in order to accommodate Polish fans watching on PPV. 4-6pm EST translates to 10pm-midnight in Poland. A "normal" start time of 9pm or 10pm would mean it was 3 or 4 in the morning for them.

• The commentary team will be: Kenny Rice, BJ Flores, Chris Mannix, & Freddie Roach

So there isn't actually North American televised boxing on Saturday night, other than Marco Antonio Rubio headlining a Televisa card in Mexico at 10pm EST and Abner Cotto being showcased on Telefutura at midnight EST.



The running order:

• Naim Nelson vs. Osnel Charles, 8 rounds @ lightweight

• Tor Hamer vs. Vyacheslav Glazkov, 8 rounds @ heavyweight

• Tomasz Adamek vs. Steve Cunningham II, 12 rounds @ heavyweight

There is a chance Nelson vs. Charles is only shown as a swing bout in case of an early KO in either of the heavyweight attractions. 12 + 8 + 8 = 28 rounds of action if everything goes the distance. 28 x 4 minutes per round (3 plus the minute break) = 112 minutes in a 120 minute broadcast, leaving only 8 minutes for commercials...not even allowing time for scorecard reading and entries/exits from the ring.



You know damn well NBC is going to jam-pack the commercials as much as they can get away with (maybe even cutting into the beginnings and ends of some rounds :twisted so if Hamer and Glazkov go the full eight, expect 40+ minutes of pundit gab & adverts to pad up the time before the main event.

 

Naim Nelson and Osnel Charles actually have an opponent in common (as well as height, and number of knockouts scored...1 by each :yep)

Been waiting for this one for a while, will be nice to see some live boxing on network TV. I'm guessing the two main fights that will be shown are Hamer vs. Glazkov and Adamek vs. Cunningham? If so, I'll definitely be happy, provided they're both at least somewhat entertaining.

 

Not that I'm hoping for Hamer vs. Glazkov to end prematurely (as that's potentially 8x3 of really top-notch heavyweight quality - a rarity these days) - but I do hope Nelson vs. Charles makes it onto TV.

They look well suited for each other.

Charles seems much faster of both hand and foot, but Nelson physically stronger and more likely to impress judges by "pressing the fight".

They seem evenly matched despite Charles' record having blemishes and Nelson's as of yet not.

 

NBC has nothing to promote this card on their website.

It isn't even on their programming schedule. You have to go to TV Guide's to see it listed.

Why bother? If they're going to squash it by not advertising it (not so much as a mention, let alone a banner or a full-page preview) why not just keep their boxing brand experiment buried on NBC Sports at a lower cost?

 

I'm glad for the afternoon card. It reminds me of afternoon boxing broadcasts when I was a kid. Seeing as how I will be hanging out with my dad on Saturday, it seems appropriate.

 

It would actually be nice if NBC/NBCS made a habit of this (not just for Adamek fights) since it would mean not clashing with big HBO & Showtime cards.

 

I saw a ten second commercial for it. That is it which is really unhelpful for boxing.

I like Cunningham and Adamek. But will be slightly routing for Cunningham and slightly favoring Adamek to win. Great fight and Glazkov-Hamer cofeature.

 

Your pick? I see Tomasz UD with Cunningham suffering a couple flash KDs as always and Cunningham rebounding to take 5-7 rounds as always.

Interesting to see how Cunningham handles the weight. And how this fight translates 4 years later.

 

Same here. I like both guys, but can't see myself rooting against Cunningham.

I'm pulling for Steve, like you...and put a little vCash on him.

 

USS is a good guy and of course American. Rough not to pull for him but a win won't be easy as he, like Chambers did. Likes to carefully time his shots and be accurate. Adamek is very robotic at Heavyweight, per se. He gets hit but comes forward with wider and more heavy shots. Cunningham will need to get ballsy and grind on adamek to impress the judges seeing the low likelyhood of a KO.
