Tough *******, as people have said. It's like watching Aaron Pryor take that straight right hand in the 13th round against Arguello the first time the two fought. It's hard to imagine taking such a good right hand like that square on and not going down. If I had been Alexis, I'd have thrown in the towel there and then.

When Marciano and Ali did the computer fight, they allowed body shots but no head shots. Rocky took it very seriously and trained extremely hard at 45 years old.
He wore a wig to look like his old self and when Ali punched of his toupee , Rocky hit with a body shot that Ali couldn't get up from for 5 mins.

Where would one look this up?

That whole computer fight thing has as many myths as truths surrounding it. Whose word are we supposed to believe on that, incidentally? You know, just so we know whom to look for.....

I don't believe that's true. Ali did say that not really fighting, just playing, Ali could not lift his arms after sparring with Rocky. Marciano was the only past champion that Ali said could beat him. He said Marciano hit very hard and if they fought multiple times "he would win one and I'd win one".

I read it before and Ali has said Marciano is better and hit harder than Frazier.

This, of course, happened in round ten, eleven and twelve. Initially, the script showed that Marciano drops Ali in round ten. But in round eleven, the audience notices that Marciano's wig is slightly pushed off its position, displaying his bald head---and from that moment on the real fists began to fly off and on. According to Murray Woroner himself, it was during this sequence (they filmed 75 one minute rounds) that Ali was joking with Marciano, throwing high jabs that repeatedly knocked Rocky's wig off. Marciano, after the second time it happened, told Ali outright not to do it again. Ali, of course, pushed his luck and fired a jab, off comes the wig and Marciano without hesitation digs a right hook to Ali's body and the present champion was doubled over to the point his knees touched the ground. Filming was halted immediately and Marciano went on a rampage saying to the effect that if Muhammad wanted to fight for keeps, they could do it right then and there. Marciano eventually was asked to cool down, and later all feelings of unease were settled---for the time being.

Sounds excatly like something Ali would do!

Ali could put himself in a different place mentally. Special individual.

Very weird article. Don't believe much of it. The statement that Marciano looked like he did when he was champion is laughable with his huge stomach showing in all the photos. Ali was also out of shape. The fight was much less than a sparring session. Both were pulling punches especially Ali. It was somewhere in-between a sparring session and a Sylvester Stallone rocky fight where no one is really hitting anyone. Ali stated rocky hit very hard, he could not lift his arms once the sparring session was over and that Rocky could have beaten him. Anything beyond this is not supported by the players involved as far as I am aware.

After fight three with Frazier, Ali was unrinating blood for a week and he had to walk with a cane for a bit as well. In that fight, went to the ropes (rope a dope) in hopes of tireing out Frazier a bit. It just gave Frazier more leverage to rip home a nasty and steady body attack. Ali`s chin and body were THE most solid in heavyweight history.

Goood point. Ali had great punch resistance and even greater will, but he was also rarely caught by surprise and therefore almost always managed to take some force off the blow by rolling with it. Cooper was one of the few who caught him completely unaware and hurt him more than any other pro opponent did.

When people wonder why 190 lbs Cooper managed to hurt him way worse than 220 lbs Foreman did - that's the answer. Foreman telegraphed his punches to such an extent that they were easy to brace for. That's why Ali could take his punches the way he did.
