He was one of the greatest. Not necessarily the greatest.

    Agreed.

On the flip side, posters who rate modern day fighters so highly and dismiss old greats makes me laugh even more. These guys fought 15 round fights, regularly without any advanced methods to improve performance or heal recovery. There was no cherry picking or avoiding rematches. The old guys were tough, could you imagine fighters like Ortiz, Khan, Dawson, Bradley, Bute (to name a few) surviving a few years of boxing back then? No chance!

It's equally amusing watching someone who is so blatantly starved for the attention his mommy never gave him, that he'd stumble upon a boxing website to shower the masses with his ignorance. I guess the fact that your nonsense garnered so many responses amounts to a "win" in your pathetic little eyes, however the sad reality of the situation is that you've only reinforced the fact that your mother made a HORRIBLE decision not to abort you. Good day sir.....

competed during the golden age of boxing, when being champion of the world actually meant CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, five time middleweight champion in an era where junior and super weightclasses did not exist, beat many hall of fame, fringe hall of fame, and good fighters. even the mob respected this man's abilities to such an extent that they halted attempts to control his career, and he had a picture perfect fighting style. he's the greatest fist fighter to ever live.
