From fans, writers, commentators - Brian Kenny to fukin RA Rugged Man. Shane had his moments not because Floyd slipped up, but because he was a legit opponent who could still pull the trigger. Floyd adjusted and just put on an absolute clinic.
yes man exactly. People were accusing Floyd of being afraid of Shane. Roach and Arum said Floyd wouldn't go near him. A lot of people and even me being one of them said, Shane was the biggest threat to Floyd even more than Pacquiao. Hearns and Hagler were close to one and two. That is why we all knew it would be a great fight. Both guys were beating who they fought easily at the time. No one expected a brawl just because the punches they opened themselves up to in round one was more than they had been hit in all the fights they had in recent times. Didn't make sense that strategy except that both guys had a lot of confidence.
It made sense for Hagler to fight in that style because Hearns was so difficult to box from the outside. If Hagler had fought in his usual style, he'd be at a disadvantage. Plus, Hearns's right hand was most deadly when he got distance and leverage on it (Cuevas, Duran, Shuler).
It's a shame they didn't have a consistent P4P scale up until 1989. I think it was KO Magazine that had issued them a couple times during the 1980s, but it was only sporadically.
