He doesnt have to. The referee will break the clinch. he might swing wildly at the breack occassionally but i dont see that in his fights (though i havent looked for a while). He will hit Wlad going into the clinch and wlad will be clinching to smother this punch. Legend has it that often Rockys punches will not land on the jaw and Wlad will take many on the should and arms as he does clinch. Jersey Joe and Ezzard and others all did exactly the same. Just because those guys arguably couldnt use those tactics against Wlad doesnt mean they couldnt successfully use the same tacktics against short armed marciano. Marciano wore them out.

Strangely enough, everyone who ever shared the ring with Rocky marciano actually had the same problem. Despite thinking him an easy target, usually missed him by inches or couldnt land clean. Wlad will certainly try to push rocky back, but he is going to take some punches and this is not disputed. Otherwise, you could show me video of Wlad not being hit by a single punch in a fight. Whether those punches are as clean as rocky hopes, well that will be the question. It certainly isnt impossible for Wlad to beat anyone.

Maybe. Despite what people way, Rocky is not Superman and he did get tired like everyone. But even when tired he still had phenomenal workrate far more than what Wlad is used to. The question is not really whether Wlad s style will weare rocky out, the question is wehter rockys style will wear Wlad out. and of course once rocky does land (and at some point he will) can Wlad continue to hold rocky off. I dont think he can. IN fact, in some ways i think i give his brother a better chance.[/quote]

thanks for a well thought out, well articulated response boiler :good

A short , tight 6 inch punch by Rock is more concussive and lethal when landed than any right hand by Wlad.
Wlad was clearly gassed at stages fighting Wach (who did nothing more than stand in front of him), and needed spurts of rest after opening up. Rock was notorious for maintaining high workrate trough to 15 rounds. Its at those points where Wlad takes his foot off the pedal that will turn the fight. Rock will just keep piling on the attack till he see's the target and when he does- good night nurse.

On top of previous physical advantages mentioned , heart, courage and determination are mental advantages he olso holds over Wlad.

Stack everything together along with the fact he has never even beaten an elite level fighter, let alone an ATG in his career, and it paints a pretty clear picture of the winner.

I haven't read a single one in this thread.

Well, maybe one. And it wasn't yours.

Total bull**** supposition and myth eating. Wlad is 60 pounds heavier, hyper strong by modern super heavyweight standards (not 180 pounder standards), and considered by many opponents and sparring partners, who were not blown-up light heavies, to be considered the strongest puncher they had faced. Marciano beat on a butterball named Don Cockell with dozens of haymakers and he only farted.

I didn't see Wlad "gassed" at anytime in that fight. A 6 foot 8 guy rocked out on juice was after him and he handled it pretty much seamlessly, having some 80 punch rounds himself. I don't see the vaunted "Rock" having near the punch output against Wlad as he was accustomed to against the ancient, half-shot lightheavies and mummies he faced. Seriously, if you ever have entered a ring, you know your opponent's assets and deficits go a long way to dictating your output.

Anecdotal hogwash. Did Marciano have to face a long succession of 220+ pound superheavies or were giants in his era guys like beanpole Kid Matthews? Easy to have courage and determination when you are pushing over paper dollls.

Wlad wins almost every round en route to a late round stoppage. I think size really does matter in this case. Marciano doesn't have the size nor strength to fight his attrition based style or impose his will on the younger Klit, and as soon as he gets close enough to do any real damage Wlad would be all over him like an octopus, leaning on him and sapping his energy with his massive size/weight.

Problem is Wlad has the heart and will of a sheep. Marciano had the courage and will to win of all all time great champion which he was. Watch again how he wants to quit when hit hard and dropped....not by one fighter which is bad enough....but by three. Three nobodies to boot. That man is not beating Marciano.

Name another fighter who was koed as Wlad was three times, falling in sections fighting nobodies all three times and wanting to quit as soon as he felt his opponents power that's considered an all time great? No will to win, no courage to fight on when seriously hurt ....you can't rate him as an all time great. These are key characteristics for all time great status.

    Yes, to middling results.

Let's just say, I was a lot better at other sporting activities.

    Jersey Joe Walcott, dumbass.

Name me another five foot ten inch, 67 inch reach heavy who has been ranked in the top ten in the last half century. Name me another similarly recent champion who lasted over 4 years who never defended against a legit 210 plus pounder.
