And then can he chase big names at 147 likes of Manny, Bradley, Floyd, Guerrero?

 

If he beats Garcia, you can argue he is the #1 in the division, but probably won't be undisputed. Not sure this puts him in a position to challenge the top 147lbers given he hasn't competed at 147lbs. A Bradley or Ortiz bout would be an interesting first test at WW.

 

I am hoping he beats Garcia then moves up to face Bradley at 147 because they have unfinished business.

I don't think he should target Garcia straight away, he needs far more time to work with Virgil Hunter first or he's running in to another surefire knock-out loss.

Hopefully they can get him back in April against somebody like Joseito Lopez, gives him another good few months work with Hunter and then he's in against a more credible fringe world-level contender and back in with a decent puncher.

After that, I'd try and get the Peterson rematch first. Would put him in a position where he'd have to prove he'd made big adjustments to dealing with pressure but against a man who's not a big puncher and who talent wise he dwarfs. Get's him a title back too, and judging by Peterson's recent purses I'm sure he'd take that fight.

He's probably gonna have to beat Garcia at some point though. He makes the weight easily enough so I don't see him moving up to 147 and leaving the division open for Khan and others. That might be even worse as Matthysse might take over then and that's arguably an even worse fight and bigger risk for Khan. So if he then comes through Peterson, I'd make that fight for him.

After that, well, if he beats Garcia, he's back to having options, probably more so than he's had at any point in his career to be honest. But he's still Amir Khan. You never know when he's gonna come unstuck, so he might as well cash in with a Mayweather payday.

April 2013: Joseito Lopez, possibly in the UK to get the Golden Boy UK thing underway.
September 2013: Lamont Peterson, anywhere it sells, maybe D.C again.
March 2014: Danny Garcia, probably Vegas.
July/September: Floyd Mayweather, either Vegas or possibly a summer fight in a stadium over in the UK.

That would be my plan for him. Though I doubt that happens or he comes through that. I think he gets knocked out again by Garcia if they fight anytime within the next 18 months which he almost certainly will.

How is there a lot of fantasizing? Every single post has said 'IF he beats Danny Garcia, then he should try and get a bout with so and so'.

Nobody has envisioned him doing any of this.

 

Personally, I would like to see Khan move up to WW in 2014. Ideally he should fight four times in 2013 at 140 and become the undisputed champion at that weight. By having four fights at 140lb it will help him take on board Virgil’s philosophy and help put it into practise what he's been learning with him, giving him enough time to work with Khan as well as removing the countless of careless errors that Khan commits.

I feel his next fight should be in Britain, fight someone like Murray and then on short break come back to the US and fight Peterson. By that time he should have learnt and taken on board Virgil's teaching and how to deal with decent pressure fighters that do not carry the same threat as those classed at the ‘elite’ level at 140. From then on, he should be more than ready to take on Garcia. If he wins in a convincing fashion, I would love to see him fight and beat Mattysee as it would be the icing on the cake and finally prove that he’s not the same reckless fighter.

For this to be possible, he has to be spending and devoting his whole time with Virgil in the gym. With talks about him getting married in April 2013, I truly doubt he’ll be focused especially since Khan is all over the place mentally. With that being said, I doubt he has the ability to change, but if he did, and becomes the undisputed champion at 140lb. I truly believe he will have cemented his legacy as a top boxer. He can then afford to only have a few fights at 147[Brook and Bradley]. Providing he comes out victorious in them bouts, then he would definitely be a credible opponent and have the long desired showdown with Mayweather in late 2014/early2015. If he loses, he can bow out from the sport at the young age he’s always wanted with his legacy already cemented.

I think we must remember just 2 fights ago Khan was the No.1 140 fighter, but we saw some short comings in his last two fights too.

I feel in these last 2 fights Khan showed lack of respect for his opponents in thinking he is too good and fought a bit reckless. In Peterson's case I think Khan won a close tough fight one he could of made a bit easier with a different approach, and a 2 points deduction for a uncommon foul was bit over the top.

In Garcia's case I think some of the build up with Angel got to Khan and he made that fight a bit personal, something a top fighter like him should never do, there is no place for emotions in the ring, you are there to win only by all means.

I think his move to Hunter more benefits his mental state, which I believe suffered from an big ego and showman mind set. Hunter is old school so he will bring him back to the basics something Khan in defence has ignored or not been taught in the first place.

Also Hunter big job is to slow Khan down, make him think about his actions in the ring before he makes them and commits to something.

I personally don't think too many adjustments are needed, if Khan even stayed a bit more patient vs Garcia he would of beat him that night, its all about Khan's mind set and his approach to the fight, am I KO this in 2 rounds or outboxing this guy for 12 round to win on points.

The new aim under Hunter should be is to win under all cost, so be it a 12 round boring working off the jab, keep moving, keep circle type fight, all you after is that W.

Khan said he is only going to fight 2 times in 2013 due to him getting married in the summer plus after that its the holy month of Ramadan, so then he will fight late 2013 possibly Garcia who think barring Khan sticks to a gameplan and watches Garcia's left hand then I don't think Garcia has too much more too offer. You see Garcia is not really a pressure fighter, if you stay on the outside pepper him with straight shots and not over staying in the pocket too long, its hard for him to chase or really effectively close you or pin you, Khan has faster feet and much much faster and hands. Garcia does have good timing, but if Khan uses his speed in good short bursts then he leaves Garcia little window to throw that wind up left hook because he needs to really plant his feet to throw the money shot, Khan needs to stay alert and this is again where Hunter needs to address, he has to do this.
