The Holmes/Witherspoon bout was sanctioned by the WBC,who'd reduced championship fights to twelve rounds. The WBA limit was still fifteen at that point, and Dokes and Weaver were contesting THEIR bauble.

The fight was close but I thought the very green Tim pulled it off but was it enough to take the title from the WBC pet Holmes. One thing is for certain Tim should have gotten a rematch, he complained of being F--Ked by King....later on Tim should have stayed away from the peace-pipe because in his case it made him a little too lay back, most of his big wins were SD's and he never had the eye of the tiger or utilized his talents with top condition. Holmes had all the connects and navigated from the tough fights, never unified despite many opportunities and never never rematched a tough or disputed win

Yep. It really was a dark time for us fans, wasn't it? But Tyson clame along and cleared that **** up in about 10 months. we had years and years of this stuff and I'm grateful at least DKP put together fights with mike that cleared all that nonsense up. And how was it Don King was able to put together all those title shots for Iron Mike in a fortnight? And the Tyson camp would sign the contracts and mow down the opposition. That makes for a much much better boxing environment than fractured titles and no matches.

dose anyone here know what consensus means?

    Definition of CONSENSUS
    1
a : general agreement : unanimity <the consensus of their opinion, based on reports … from the border — John Hersey>
b : the judgment arrived at by most of those concerned <the consensus was to go ahead>
    2
: group solidarity in sentiment and belief

The consensus is surely that it was a close fight with split opinion on who the winner should have been.

It's one of those fights like Whitaker/DLH that could've gone either way.
