see, that may seem like a "gotcha" funny thing to say, but let's just listen to Jim Watt and Adam Smith commentating on Lacy vs Pemberton, forgetting how even the Japanese commentator screamed orgasmically at some of Lacys shots

seriously, just listen to how they talk about Lacy, then think about how funny it is now to compare him to Broner...you know, cus Lacy was so useless after all

"I havn't seen any weaknesses in Lacy" from Jim Watt, a former professional champion, is one of my favourites. Hype is a powerful thing.

as for you Hickey, the fact that Broner can't move, is vulnerable to the jab, he seems dynamic but is actually very predictable... all of these things which are vulnerable to Rickys style of boxing, well that would be my argument.

Burns doesn't have to be Joe Calzaghe to beat this man

thats the funniest notion of all

"Seeing this fight tonight, I'm wondering if Joe Calzaghe would want it"- Jim Watt

oh yes, this is how highly thought of one Jeff Lacy was at the time

    remind you of anyone?

(smallprint being : despite showing obvious flaws that can be exploited by a smart boxer who can fight to gameplan)

Slate all you want, but Joe's Father had to TELL JOE that he MUST take the fight. Joe didn't wan't that fight.

Besides, Ricky will get hammered if he faces Broner. Broner is streets ahead of Mitchell and Moses.

Did he ****, so Joe took the fight because his Daddy said so? or because he was a smart man who knew this fight was winnible, and would make him a fortune beating the American darling oh looks so good, yet is so beatable?

"Besides, Ricky will get hammered if he faces Broner. Broner is streets ahead of Mitchell and Moses"

Well Lacy was streets ahead of Joes last opponent before he fought him, but the better man won.

And hey, I won't be crying in my cornflakes if Burns loses, I just think the boy deserves the chance to have this fight, win lose or draw, he deserves it even more than Calzaghe did, and in my humble opinion, he can win.

And I would like to touch on this point, some people have been saying, and I agree, that there are two arguments here, there is the ducking argument, and the "how good is Broner" argument, should Burns never fight Broner, then I agree it's his own fault in a sense because he should have demanded the fight.

Call that a duck or not, is a seperate argument to the fact that BRONER IS BEATABLE, just like Jef Lacy, Broner is beatable and he will be beaten and exposed (actually, he already has been..) it's just a damn shame if Ricky let's someone else do it if he gave up the chance.

Sadly Burns isn't on Calzaghe's level and Broner isn't as crude as Lacy. Totally different fight, I can accept the level of hype on Broner is a tad over the top but he's a good fighter.

Nipple's right, Joe damaged his wrist around 2 weeks before the fight and Joe sat down and talked about pulling out. Enzo told him not to as it would be his easiest fight and he would win with one good hand. Rest was history..

Lacy at his best was a better boxer than Broner, regardless of his much better amateur career*, Lacy was a small compact guy who had to beat bigger guys,Broner is a guy who couldn't handle a featherweight slugger, Broner is like a tank, he strumbles along steadily, consistently, then throws out something spectacular every once in a while, Ricky Burns is a guy who is steady as she goes, keeps going, keeps going, keeps going, gets over powered? no problem, overstrengthed, no problem, keeps going, keeps going, pumping out the punches with great timing and technique.

There is a difference between "finesse" and technique, Broner has the former in abundance, the latter, he is lacking. Vice versa for Burns

    * speaking of Lacy

Broner isnt a Lacey character, I honestly think that he's a bit more James Kirkland. Broner just doesnt have the skills to justify the man love expressed by some posters on here....all time greats don't shuffle forward in straight lines for **** sakes.

Lacy IMO isn't a better boxer then Broner. You'd have to show me at his best because i watched Lacy and never found him to be a that good a boxer. He was good at what he did at a certain level but the night Calzaghe beat him was the definition of being exposed. By the time he faced Calzaghe he bulked up even more then he did in early days, become more crude as his reign went on and looked like a **** poor comedy act version of Joe Frazier. He really lived off the left hook monikor..

Broner for all his troubles in balance and lack of movement has some good skills like Burns who also shares some bad habits himself. Broner struggled with Ponce De Leon in a fight many feel on here he lost, but then again i've seen CJ batter Ricky up in Leeds. I believe both guys have come on a fair amount since then.

I'd say he's slightly...and I mean SLIGHTLY better than Kirkland..I'd say he's an Andre Berto type, the athleticism covers the extreme technical flaws

Its funny that you should mention it but if he had got his **** together I think that CJ would give the best Broner out there a very close run for his money

Yeah but Burns has come on more since then, remember the Johanneson fight was quite a while back, and CJ was a powerhouse whereas De Leon was tiny, Burns took some big bodyshots from Carl, but he got back up on his feet and finished the fight.

It was also well known that Ricky wasn't a hundred percent for that fight, but I'll leave it there cus I don't wanna seem like I'm making excuses, Carl would have beaten Burns that night every which way or where.

But look at the interview of Jamie Moore and Billy Nelson, and Billy admits Ricky fought like an idiot back then.( yes, I'm plugging Billy Nelson) this is not the same Ricky
