Wladimir Klitschko vs. Rocky Marciano

some very good reminders of the Rocks greatness and comments from both boxing insiders and men that have fought Rocky. I am also a fan of Klitschko and I like his improvement and heavyweight run, unfortunately he has not fought any great fighters like Walcott,Charles,Moore that were known for there skill and power and experience but that is not Vlads fault, he has fought the best and his brother has eliminated the rest.

A lot of the people that undermine Marciano fail to give him credit for fighting the #1 contenders and 5 out of 6 fights, they say Marciano did not fight the super large guys of the era but at the time you fought the best not the biggest. In fact the biggest were picked off by Walcott, Charles Moore and Lastarza...Charles Ko'd Wallace and Satterfield,


Moore Ko'd Baker and beat Nino Valdes 2 X and Ko'd 6'3 Alberto Lovell in1, KO'd in 9 6'4 225 lb Abel Cestac, 6'4 211lb Alejandro Lavorante

Walcott had his share of wins over the bigger guys of the era and even Lastarza beat the 6'3 Dan Bucceroni and in the case of Walcott he beat 6'3 puncher 210lb Lee Q. Murry, 6'4 219lb Hein Ten Hoff (who had an 84 inch reach) 6'3 208lb Ollie Tanberg and KO 1 6"4 218lb Johnny Shkor

I think a lot is mentioned about the size of Marciano's opponents instead of the fact that he fought the best, 5 #1 contenders...Marciano did beat a few good Big men 6'4 Vingo at an earlier stage of both of there careers and fighters who weighed over 240 but Big fighters were not the best in his era in fact the best of the big men were eliminated by the #1 contenders as we see above

 

Yeah, he was great, an inspirational man and one of a kind. I love his quote about fighting Wallcot , behind in the 13th round and being fully blind in one eye.- "i knew i had to do something". And what he did made history. Failure for Rock just wasn't an option and his heart, courage and determination never once failed him.

About Wlad fighting the best, he wouldn't fight guys who weren't even the best, like Chorisa. I may sound like im hating , but its the truth. Wlad cant deal with pressure fighting sluggers. Its not in his make up as a boxer.

 

Jersey Joe Walcott first is not rated as an all time great hwt. Secondly you never see a fight where Walcott wants to quit. Wlad fell in multiple sections, koed by nobodies looking like he wants to quit crying to his mamma. So....dumbass...your wrong again.

P4P Rocky is one of the best HWs ever. However, K bros, LL class HW easily beats Marciano. The top, modern HWs are not the big oafs of decades ago.

Some are trying to construct a mythical 210# Marciano that would make him more competitive. Well, there are many issues w/that (worse stamina, slower). 210# Marciano still loses to Wlad - probably just as easy as the real 185-190# version.

 

More of this nonsense. Carmine Vingo may have been 6'4 but he weighed 190 pounds. The man was an anorexic weakling or a concentration camp victim. Vingo didn't have a single solid win on his record either. As for fighters who weighed over 240 lbs, Marciano fought a grand total of one. And this was almost certainly a fat ****, a complete bum who was knocked out by a middleweight before fighting Marciano.

 

a Jerk off response, i just finished watching a fight with Tomaz Adamak and Steve Cunningham in which Adamek outweighed Steve by 20 lbs, and it was a close fight 1st called a win in which all the announcers thought Steve won, in the 1st fight they both weighed 197-198 and Adamek dropped Steve 3 times, Vingo was far from anorexic he just did not use weights or steroids, he may have if they were available and undetectable but if you Google his image you will see he was full bodied but not over-muscled but a solid Italian and from my 1st hand knowledge from ring siders Vingo was a rough tough young prospect as was Marciano who was also a novice professional, Marciano did KO Fat F--k professionals also but the quality guys at that time were fit and non-sterioded

 

And how many 180 pounders has Wlad fought? Zero. We have no proof that he could fight a man that small.

Vingo was a spindly featherfisted weakling. With not a single decent win on his record. That is a fact. Why are you trying to blow him up? It's intellectually dishonest. I'm tired of Marciano getting preferential treatment on here. Bottom line is we're calling bull**** on the whole Marciano mythology.

 

This thread has blown out of fantasy realm and into the personal realm.

 

WALDO is labelled a heavyweight.

Marciano is labelled a heavyweight.

But they clearly belong in separate divisions.

Arguing that Marciano would beat WALDO is the same as arguing that Sandy Saddler would beat Bob Foster.

It takes nothing away from the smaller man and his greatness to admit he might be smacked about by a man much larger and more powerful than he.

Vingo was an excellent prospect at the time but one of the guys Marciano ruined (there would be many more) I know its hard to envision Marciano beating a man 6 inches taller and 40lbs heavier and it is a task because Vlad is one of the best skilled big men ever but Marciano and Langford are 2 freaks who had that type of power to KO anyone they hit and Vlad and Lennox Lewis were KO'd by guys like Brewster and Rahman so I don't think it is an impossible dream to think they could be stopped by a guy like Marciano although I would not discount the offense that Vlad and Lennox bring (only Vlad has proven late power)

Sad to see this thread keep getting propped up to the top.

 

Wlad does not smack anybody around.

Last time Wlad got smacked around he got floored and was counted out.

Fighters who tried to smack Rock around got knocked out so bad they couldn't even be revived with smelling salts.
