Agreed. Lorenzo Trejo was a poor choice. It was as embarrassing to watch as Charr vs. Airich yesterday.

...and Airich actually looked like a much better opponent on paper.

 

Round 1

Gotay is jabbing the body and sliding outside. Gotay moves around the ring and wings in a big right to the body. Lopez is standing firm and watching him. Lopez attempts a left hook to the top of the head as Gotay comes in low hooking the body. Lopez slips a jab leaning back and tries a left hook but doesn't throw it far enough. Gotay circles, stops, ducks and peers up over his gloves at Lopez - and repeats. Lopez tries a lead right and Gotay climbs up either side of his body with hooking combos. Lopez circles in and taps Gotay on the body with his own left hook. Gotay goes down on a delayed reaction after turning his back to Lopez and walking into a corner!

Round 2

Lopez is circling left and throwing scoops to the body. Gotay tries to hook high into the sides of Lopez's head but their lead feet are getting tangled and tripping them both up while they're punching. Messy. Double hook inside by Lopez. Body shots by Lopez, backing Gotay up even as he flurries back. Gotay circles to his right. The ref pauses the action. Lopez needs his shoe tied. The corner does it quickly. Actually, it's Velcro. Easy fix. Push the strap over.

Round 3

Lopez has Gotay hurt with an uppercut and left hook combo! Lopez chases him back and threshes the body as Gotay covers up and backpedals. Gotay is almost trapped on the ropes but wheels left to safety. Lopez comes forward without punching and Gotay pokes him in the chest with a few heavy shots. Lopez answers back with wide hooks to the body, burying his face in Gotay's chest. Big rally by Gotay. Lopez quells it with a jab to the face and several hooks to the body. Lopez is ripping into Gotay, but getting hit with straight rights on the way in. Lopez walks through Gotay's counter fire and slaps down on his back and sides heavily. 1-2 by Lopez, causing Gotay to step out of the pocket. Lopez looks to his corner to listen to instructions. BAD HABIT, took his eyes completely off Gotay (although Gotay was several paces away).

Shocking that Gotay didn't fall after eating that one big left hook in the 3rd. His arms splayed and his butt stuck out behind him as pints of sweat flew up from his hair - and he swayed backward, but somehow caught his balance and stayed up.

 

Round 4

Lopez is working in 1-2's on Gotay from outside. Lopez circles with ihs left arm carried below his hip. Gotay steps left and right, trying to catch Lopez with big rising haymakers wound up from the rear. Looping body shots by Gotay at mid-range. A long jab to the body by Gotay before pulling out. Lopez steps in and pops off a quick straight flurry to the face as Gotay turns his cheek and lifts his glove to absorb some of the impact while getting corralled to the ropes. Lopez throws a BIG ONE-TWO-THREE, with the jab landing, right deflecting off Gotay's back, and the hook finishing off flush on Gotay's temple and he's down very hard!! Saved by the bell!!

I guess Jose Lopez is building up a following. There are lots of signs in the audience with "Wonder Boy" written in the same fancy comic book font.

That is the first time Lopez hasn't knocked someone out - and if he'd landed that three-punch combo a little earlier in the 4th he'd have gotten the knockout tonight once he pounced on Gotay.
