He was also leering creepily at Claudia Trejos when she interviewed him backstage after beating Jorge Silva.

Had there not been all those cameras around, she'd have been treated like Arce's face!

 

Time for the main event.

 

Abner Cotto vs. Sergio Perez, 10 rounds @ lightweight

 

Holy ****, Perez looks old.

37 going on 50.

 

This is almost as bad matchmaking tonight for Cotto as it was for Seda...but not quite as bad.


If he can stop Perez (even though Perez looks like a pensioner and damn near almost is one) it is kind of a statement.

 

Round 1

Cotto is inching forward, turned with his left side facing Perez and shoulder rolled up in front of his chin with his fist down at his side. Perez tries to jab in with his right, and chop overhand with his left. Cotto drifts out of the way, then darts in with his left jab to the body. Perez backs up to the ropes as Cotto misses a high combo. Big overhand lefts by Perez, launched from outside and falling short. Cotto presses in without punching, and dances away from a southpaw jab. Cotto pumps his left glove out softly to negate Perez's right jab as it paws out at him. Cotto circles in quickly with his lead foot just inside Perez's and DROPS Perez with a hammering right followed by a left hook and another short right while Perez is already tipping over. Perez shakes his head dismissively while answering the ref's call, implying it was only balance. Perez keeps pawing his right jab from outside, missing, finally giving up on it and diving in with a left to the body.

Did I just hear Claudia Trejos suggest throwing Abner in with Miguel Vazquez? He's nowhere near ready. Hopefully JuanMa and Jayson are putting her in her place.

 

Round 2

Cotto is jabbing and throwing big rights to the head as Perez backs straight up to the ropes and drops to either side to slip shots, all while pawing and slapping down with his right jab, catlike. Cotto is taking long steps around Perez and pushing his left jab into Perez's right to bring it out of play. Cotto loads up his straight right lead and follows Perez around the ring. The old man is crafty, able to slip and duck very effectively. Perez drops his arms, catches Cotto lunging in, clinches and spanks the body. Veteran tricks.

Round 3

Cotto comes forward and hits the brakes as Perez swipes a high left hook and cuts the air with it. Cotto jabs into Perez's right glove. They fence and parry a bit with their lead hands. Cotto presses in and lands an uppercut and pushes Perez into a corner after landing. Perez goes down, and it isn't ruled a knockdown as there was the push. Cotto exchanges jabs with Perez at mid-range. Both men try to lean their heads back out of the way of the incoming jab, but they're both scoring. Big combo to the body up close by Cotto. Perez claps his fists together, encouraging the youngster. Pawing jab by Perez while trotting in on his toes with his upper body ducked down and arms covering his head. Cotto jabs over his head.
