No, he wouldnt. That activity youre talking about would be cut in half to begin with. and with Mays subtle movements and his defecnce that accuracy would also go way down. Land a lot my ass.
Manny would get beat down. I have always thought that fighting Mayweather is a horrible style match up for Manny. Floyd has better foot work and controls the range in all of his fights. Manny can't bring that **** he has to the table. Falling in, not throwing a solid jab, getting his feet out of position. That **** will get him tore up.
Dead ****ing wrong. Yes, in physics it SHOULD work out that way but the problem is most speed guys are out scoring points and don't have the follow through to make it a devastating punch. As SCAR said, he doesn't "commit". I've posted this a lot of times. I think the amateur system ruins the speed guys cuz they learn to 'score points' not really punch.
Marquez, Cotto, Mosley and Ortiz all landed, didn't they? Mayweather isn't exactly what he used to be and I think that has been obvious recently. Don't forget that none of the guys I mentioned in that list have Pacquiao's speed and not close. Your ass indeed.
You are missing the point though. Mayweather punches hard enough to earn Manny's respect and that power comes from his accuracy, speed and timing for the most part. Add also that Manny would be trying to cover distance to get to Mayweather and getting caught while coming in will put Manny on his ass and maybe have him planking again.
Go back to the third fight of Pac/Marquez. Marquez has a way of extending to 'fight long' from the outside. The punches land but don't do much damage because they are extended. Mayweather has the reach to deliver the same punch with some pop because of his reach advantage. Floyd also has the advantage of being able to lay back and counter because he knows Manny will bring it. It's a shame scoring doesn't really take into account each guys initiation of action. This is what lost Manny his last fight. Marquez knew he could simply lay back and wait. It IS what cost him the third fight though.
I'm expecting Pacquiao to come in for Mayweather as he did for Marquez in the 4th fight, fully motivated. Using a lot of head movement to close range and land body and head shots. I'm also fully expecting him to throw a lot of punches as he did with Marquez though not as reckless since he won't be forced into recklessness. If he fights that style, as I expect him to considering the long wait and hype for this fight, this would be 50/50 for me. Besides that, I fully agree with your post. P.S. This fight can still be intriguing if Pacquiao returns and blows Marquez out in a 5th fight. If he doesn't, consider this fight dead for good unless Arum finally softens up and gives in to Mayweather's deluded demands.
Tell me one just one boxer who fought Floyd who says he doesn't hit hard? Now I can tell you so many who say he hits with plenty of power and you are correct that is without fully committing to his punches which has nothing to do with the amateur system but due to brittle hands and breaking them mid fight on more than one occasion. Mayweather hits hard trust me. I will take Shane/JMM/Hatton/Baldomir over you and Scar.
Scar you're one of the more honest Floyd fans on this site, I admire and respect your views. Very seldom do we see unbiased fans of great fighters such as Floyd and Manny. You're one of them. :good
In the third fight Pacquiao didn't fight as he did in the fourth. He went in flat footed most of the time looking to land big bombs and was forced to adapt here and there. In the fourth though, he came in with head movement and you saw the difference, he was clearly dominating till Marquez landed big bombs that dropped him. Even after the knockdown Marquez was still lost and bothered by Pacquiao's constant head movement and consistent attacks. Pacquiao's stupidity and anticipation to prove a point after being knocked down is what left him reckless and open for that final counter that landed him face front. Push that aside and you can clearly see Pacquiao was winning this fight. I don't expect Mayweather to be fully relaxed laying back and waiting especially when he doesn't have the power to fully discourage Pacquiao backwards as Marquez did, Pacquiao will keep going forward throwing combinations body and head and activity does indeed bother Mayweather.
Somewhere along the line we seemed to have swapped positions. My point is that Mayweather's reach and accuracy 'should' be the difference here. Sadly we will never find out.
I dont see it, and I dont mean this in a hater type of way, Manny was brutally knocked out, his style of fighting is that darting in quick running off shots and darting back out until he either beats you down or catches you flush. Manny isnt a spring chicken you cant teach an old dog new tricks, and likely Manny is going to be a bit more reluctant to pulling the trigger in his next couple of fights, and if that is the case even should he win those fights, I wouldnt put him in there with Floyd or Juan for that matter. Manny needs to be able to commit to his shots and if he feels that doing so will put him in the danger zone, he is likely to not commit as much... it really depends on mannys mental state here. Best thing that can happen when Manny returns is to put him in there with lesser caliber fighters, Paulie comes to mind we know he cant punch he boxes that type of fight will give Manny the rounds needed to mount a serious come back. I do not believe a 5th fight right away is going to be a wise move for Team Pacquiao... they should take it easy for a bit
