People are defending him after he said he offered no options on Smith and blatantly lied?

 

The second offer made had no options, Smith imo should have took the deal, it's not like he has many options anyway, plus the British title is about the best belt a fighter of his level can win.

 

The last time Smith won a decent fight was in 2010, so he's hardly in a position to be demanding much. The Groves loss was a bad one and it's a gamble as to whether anyone is interested in him any more, seeing as he's blatantly going nowhere with his career.

 

How can people say he should take it..... You don't know what is was for .... Jeez

 

Anything more than £10,000 is a good offer which he should take. Smith doesn't deserve anything significantly more than that because he isn't going anywhere with his career and no matter how much wants to kid himself, he isn't a draw anymore.

 

Not if it goes to purse bids... A £25k bid for the fight would get him more than £10k

It's really a shame that Paul Smith doesn't have access to the massively experienced business managers that reside on ESB.

And yes, we should also ignore Handsome Eddie's offer of a fight with options - he criticised Frank for asking for options on Rees if he took the Burns fight. Yet somehow he gets a pass, despite his supposedly moral stance against it.

 

And was still probably quite low. You can't give Hearn a pass for things others criticise Frank for.

 

Some of Smith's fights have been absolutely woeful viewing. The only moments of excitement he has really brought to the table are the bits when he was getting beaten up by Degale and Groves. He probably sells a few tickets and you can't blame him for holding out for a bigger purse as he isn't going to be the favourite going in to the fight and if he loses he's pretty much done in boxing.

 

hearn was quoted as saying something about the disappointing crowd size on fight night, I think thats why his next 2 fights where on undercards

 

No that's very true and fair. If Smith can get a better deal and fight then fair play to him and he should go for it, I can't see a better fight for him at the moment though, the opportunity to be a 2 time British champion should be a good incentive to take a lower purse, imo?

 

I suppose if I'm Smith, and I know that I generate more ticket sales in Liverpool than either the headline fighter (Bellew) and the guy I'm fighting (who can't draw much in Glasgow), then I would be unlikely to take the money just for a shot at the British.

Hearn needs to treat other fighters with the respect he demands for his own. He can't have it both ways.

Paul get a bit of a hard time on here and I don't understand why?
Him and stephen have always came across has down to earth men and there father you couldn't meets nicer guy.
There no disgrace Paul being beat by grooves and degale both are quite a bit above the rest in Britain, so Paul v Kenny should be the best of the rest and a real good fight

 

Smith was a draw years ago, before being humiliated by DeGale and knocked out by Groves. There's no reason to think he's still a bigger draw than Bellew. If there is any remaining interest in Smith, it's far less than what he had years ago.
