The fact of the matter is that Smith doesn't deserve a big purse considering the state of his career and recent results.

I'm not saying he should accept what Matchroom supposedly offered him, what I'm saying is that he has no right to expect them to offer him big money because his stock and drawing power are not high at all anymore. Also, to bang on in every interview he has about how he wants to fight and beat up Anderson but then turn down the chance to fight him, regardless of money, is just comes across as pathetic.

If he beats Anderson and regains the belt then fair enough, he has some bargaining power again and can demand higher money for fights, right now though he's at the back of the bus so he can't expect the perks of being at the front.

It makes good business sense because Anderson can't draw in Scotland or elsewhere, and Smith does. So why does Anderson get the benefit? That's why Smith has the right to turn the fight down.

Anderson inherited his title from a geriatric who had no business at all fighting for the British belt. Fact.

How he won the belt aside, Anderson is still the champion and Smith the challegner, the champion ALWAYS gets the better deal in any sport.

You need to realise that Smith isn't a draw anymore either, or at least not half the draw he was two years ago. I'm from Liverpool, I have know this. He'd probably sell out the Olympia (about 2000 capacity) but not Aintree or the Echo Arena. You get what you pay for, simple as that. And right now, Smith isn't worth much (despite what he thinks).

Cotto-Pacquiao, Mayweather-Mosley. Two recent examples of that being bull****.

Smith still sells more tickets than Anderson. Why should his ticket sales pay Anderson's way? He never said he needs more than Anderson, just that the offer was ****.

Why would you not take this fight if you where Paul Smith though..?

He is still getting paid, and if he thinks he is going to win..? why is he not taking the fight.

Gets money, gets the belt>>>>> Makes more money in the future, due to having the belt.

I think Paul Smith needs to wake up, many fighters out there would fight tooth and nail! for a shot at the British title!

Paul Smith has had how many..?

I agree, unless he's pre arranged with santa for the winning lottery ticket. I've just had a bust up with my son-in-law over the fact that he won't take certaing jobs unless he gets paid a certain amount, he's a brickie! He wants £18 pound an hour or he won't get out of bed ect, been offered £14.00 & spunked it off.

You useless **** i told him, You are in the the middle of the biggest financial meltdown in history with MUCH WORSE TO COME! Every hour is an earning hour! Every job is an earner! OK it may just be jam! But it's better than no jam on yer bread or no bread at all! Take the earner & tomorrow it could be caviar!

Getting yer hands on the British title is guaranteed future work.

he complained about there being multiple options.

It's a business. You make offers, you improve them. As long as the last offer was fair then there isnt an issue.

hopefully the fight goes to purse bids.

What you're missing here is the point.

I, personally, have no issue with options on a voluntary defence. It's good business sense. BUT, I do have an issue with a promoter taking another promoter to task for a totally normal request. And then going and doing the exact same thing.

Just because he changed the offer doesn't excuse him from trying it on. He needs to either be for or against options, not just when it suits him to be.

    Cool?

Options is a very broad term, the options he was objecting to could be completely different to the ones he offered Smith

Hearn does seem to get the benefit of the doubt on here consistently when compared with other promoters.

Em... options are options. It's a promotional entitlement if the other fighter beats your fighter. The only real difference is what the fighter is entitled to under the agreement.

10 round non-title fight. Maybe if you're getting a shot at a belt, but £15,000 for a fight against a world champion when they're not even putting the belt on the line is unacceptable.

Why are we now making the case that it's okay to take short money in exchange for shots at better belts? So you're getting paid less the higher you step up now, is that it?

    What are you talking about?

Matthews should have gotten more money because it wasn't for the belt? :huh That makes no sense.

I don't have a problem with Matthews turning it down, but it was a much better opportunity than what Hearn is offering to Smith. That's my whole point.

Your second paragraph makes a statement I never even suggested. The whole issue was that Eddie acts whiter than white, complaining that Frank asks for options, etc, then does the exact same thing.
