Terriffic rd 8 for Cotto. Oh and im going to Floyds next fight. Hopefully its vs Canelo or at least have him as the co main at the same venue
I had the same scorecard. 3, 6, 8, and 9 to Cotto. Too bad that Cotto might have blown his load in round 8, because he gassed out pretty badly after round 9. Floyd swept each of the last 3 rounds pretty easily, but before then, Cotto really was giving him a rough time, winning some rounds and even making Floyd work hard in the rounds Floyd won. Makes me wonder how the fight would have gone with 8 ounce gloves. Cotto probably gets stopped in the 11th or 12th, but at the same time, I doubt Floyd could have stayed standing through the barrage of shots he took in the 8th round from a Cotto with 8 ounce gloves. The fight really showed that Floyd is out of his element at 154 though. Cotto has always been small at 154 and was recently manhandled by Trout, and Cotto still muscled Floyd around and roughed him up in close range pretty easily. A true 154 pounder like Canelo would give him big problems. There's a reason Floyd never fought Martinez- fighting guys with distinct physical advantages is dangerous at this stage of his career just by itself; throw in whatever skills a bigger opponent might have and the risk to the "0" grows exponentially. If he wants to finish his career unbeaten, he never returns to 154 again before retiring.
Gave Floyd rds 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 11, and 12 Miguel rds 3, 6, 8, and 10 I had round 7 even 116-113 Mayweather.
Fighting boxings cash cow DLH at 154 was a huge risk. But necessary to 'cross over.' The weight was a problem. However all Floyd had to do was take away the jab and left hook of Oscar. DLH is rendered weaponless after that, due to bwing a natural southpaw turned orthodox and having virtually no right hand. But now things are different. Floyd MAY not be as mobile as befor and frankly he seems tired of moving and putting on boxing clinics only to be ridiculed by the fans for doing so. And now Canelo is the new up and coming star and unlike Oscar, Canelo can crack with both fists.
Well, it was a very faded DLH floyd fought by 2007. The 2002-2003 Floyd Sr.-trained DLH was superior to the 2007 Roach version in physical attributes, skills, and gameplans. He'd have taken Floyd at 154, same as the late 1990s DLH at 147. Returning to Canelo, though, the Cotto fight showed Floyd doesn't have the legs to box and move for a full 12 rounds, and his reflexes are slower as well. A lot of the fight was contested in close quarters, and Floyd won mainly because he got the better of inside exchanges more often than not. Cotto was exerting more control over where the fight was contested, Floyd simply got the better of him more often than not even though the fight wasn't taking place where he probably would have liked it to. Canelo is a lot stronger than Cotto, and has superior hand speed, combination punching, and power. He'd beat Floyd to the punch in the center of the ring, and if/when Floyd moved back to the ropes to try and counter him, he'd get outmuscled and roughed up. Floyd has a chance due to his skills, but his physical attributes are starting to slide, and a much bigger, aggressive counterpuncher like Canelo could be the guy to capitalize on it.
9-3 or 8-4.....for Floyd....competitive...not close though...great showing for Cotto as to be expected when facing the very best period today.
Oh my Gad! Oh my Gad! Oh no, he turned into Pac. A drop of blood makes him weak now. Blood is sure sign you're losing the fight. ******* Boxing 101.
Just watched again and noticed Floyd was never able to land his check left hook that he lands while lewering you in fighting off the backfoot. Also Cottos physical strength forced Floyd to fight Cotto off and wasnt able to be as mobile as he wanted. Floyd tried to fight backing up and he wasnt effective. Floyd looked great the last 3 rds because of his amazing conditioining.
