Only the GOAT Les Darcy could cause debate that ends up in chaos and fireworks like that.

It was another thread around the same time that saw the mass bannings although the Darcy thread of that time was a 20+ page epic with much argy bargy and angst as well.

No, not Darcy, just his countrymen, who desperately cling to every aspect of Darcy mythology as if it's their last tank of oxygen. Old hat here. I personally got no problem with Les and consider him to be a great fighter myself. But cast even the slightest doubt whatsoever on anything regarding Les and watch them go nuts. It's silly.

GOAT.....yeah, sure. And he proved this how?

And I'm still waiting for an example of how people talk about Greb's 6 rounders as if they're 15 rounders. Or was that just more empty talk that you can't back up (the standard for Darcy fanatics, it seems)?

Fact is, we have so few boxers that have garnered world attention that we hold them up to be something they're sometimes not. That may have something to do with it. Plus, we're often sore losers which is something we constantly accuse others of being

Now this is a fair, balanced Darcy post. Not sure if you're from Oz or not (I'm guessing by your handle that you are), but if so I wish more Darcy fanatics took this sensible, reasonable approach.

Based on the fact that Darcy demolished a fighter who had clearly gotten the better of Greb in his previous outing, I would favor a match=up btx the two that would take place in the early part of 1917. Greb hadn't peaked at that point.

But from 1919 on, I might be inclined to favor Greb, because he'd be peaking at a point when Darcy's high intensity style might begin to take a physical toll on him.

D, I agree with you favoring a peak Dempsey over Darcy but not because Les Darcy would burn out because of his "higher intensity "than Greb...
No one fought at a more intense pace than Harry Greb. No one could match his speed and endurance...Darcy had unlimited potential untapped before the grim reaper undid this great fighter...Life is not fair...Two great, great middleweights who died so so young...

Well no one knows who fought at the more intense pace since we cant see Greb fight. There would be plenty who could match his speed and endurance.

By the way serious question, but are you a relative of Greb by any chance?

Darcy nature was very peaceful. Greb intensity was from the go, You had to back Darcy into a corner or pummel him with punches to make him fire up.

Case in point. All empty talk with nothing to back it up with (as I suspected).

*chuckle* Yeah, ya got me....definitely never done nothin' so harrowing as THAT ;) Good catch....

Wrong again. Plenty of people saw both Greb and Darcy fight and so far it is Greb, not Les, who is often cited as the fastest fighter many had ever seen. I don't recall this claim made about Darcy.

Jack Dillon, Mike Gibbons, George Chip, Tommy Gibbons and Gene Tunney are just some of the fighters to comment on the blistering pace Greb set. Speed and endurance were pretty much always on Greb's side. He trained in conditions Darcy (and most other fighters) could never even dream of.

No Burt, but just as you correctly think the world of Les Darcy, I too think
that Greb was my idol because of his unparelleled career ,his amazing courage fighting the last 5 or so years with one eye blind. Burt think of the courage required to enter the ring for 5 years knowing that ONE blow to your remaining eye, can render you BLIND in front of your opponent, and
audience ? What cojones that required from the great Greb to fight his fears and anxiety before each fight, overcoming this anxiety and licking
everyone his weight and up to heavyweights maybe 100 fights or more.
So the closest I came in contact with Harry Greb was as a child one of his
tough opponents Soldier Bartfield who fought Greb a few times playfully
tattooed my ribs in jest until my dad pulled him off me...Bartfield was about 55 years old then but was strong as a bull...So you have your great fighter B, and I have Harry Greb as my favorite...cheers.
