Now this would be one of the greatest matchups you can make between 2 ATG's. Would've been amazing to see these 2 at their primes fighting each other at 135. FLoyd had a lot of pop in the lower weight classes and could essentially hurt Sweet pea. But Whitaker's defense was probably the best I've ever seen (aside from Floyd himself,) and I don't know if either guy would be able to land too many clean punches. This would be such an amazing fight on a technical level between 2 of the purest boxers in history.
Yes Sir :good Pea actually had the most trouble with a young Zab Judah who would more often than not get the better of Pea.
I hate myself for saying it, but I see Floyd winning a semi-close UD here. They're both tremendous athletes, but Mayweather's just too smart. He could probably adapt better than Pea throughout the fight, and that'd end up making the slight difference he needs to pull the win.
2 things : That's one hell of a chin by the ref And how was Roger not Dq Ed or have pts taken away for hitting Pea while he was down.
Whitaker certainly has the jab and workrate (in addition to being southpaw) going for him against an opponent that he wouldn't possess outright advantages over in speed or reflexes, if at all. Not a fight he stands much to win on fighting off the backfoot from outside; he'd clearly need to be the busier fighter and assume more risk, which he often did anyway.
this! except for the part where pea ismore athletic that is a tossup. sweet pea by Split Decision. sweat pea would also win the crowd on his hillariius showboats thus swaying the judges.
Look at prime Floyd vs past-prime Oscar, and compare to past-prime Pernell vs prime Oscar. Both Floyd and Pernell beat Oscar by about 2 points, in my book. But look at the circumstances. Pernell was faster, slicker, and smarter.
good fights to reference. styles make fighgs but since these fighters have simmiliar skill sets & attributes it is a decent gage...the oscar gage.
