at the news scene. Just thought I should share this with everyone. Says it would be fatal for him at this point to lose any ounce of motivation and mentions how he's satisfied with his nine belts at home. Mentions how boxing is losing its importance in his life. He has recently signed his final contract with HBO, a three fight deal which includes the April 27th bout.
He's fighting Martin Murray in Argentina in April isn't he? ****inghell, he loves destroying us Brits doesn't he? Gotta' love Sexy Serg! Murray, Chavez II then Golovkin. Would be more than happy with that. I don't think Chavez II should happen tbh as the first fight was more than conclusive, but it's almost guaranteed with HBO plugging it. Would also love fights with Floyd and Canelo at 154 but they're unrealistic.
Fighting Golovkin will be the best way to end his career. Win or lose, he's been incredibly successful and has secured his position, in my opinion at least, in the Hall.
Floyd-Sexy Sergio would be THE way to signify the end of an era. I used to think Floyd-manny, but we know what happened there.
good example of a boxer who has had to spend most his career in the shadows due to not being in with the big promoters.
3 fights, it works out. 1- a should win fight with Murray 2- Chavez 2 3- A final farewell fight. I Enjoyed the Martinez era, much better than the Taylor and Pavlik eras.
for selfish reasons i'd like to see him fight on but he's proven a freat deal imo, one of the most exciting fighters going.
He's already exceeded expectations by fighting at such a high level at his age. I wouldn't want him to fight in his 40's. Should've been an ATG but he'll fall short. Had he been in the sport longer, yes, very possible. This guy should've been as big as Oscar with his looks and talent. Nonetheless I still think Sergio ranks right up there with the Pacs and Floyds and JMMs as one of the greatest or most skilled in the past 10 yrs. Two of my favorites - JMM and Sergio leaving the sport soon. Sucks but I'm sure there won't be a shortage of great fights.
There's no way he'll retire after three more fights, providing he keeps on winning. He just needs opponents who he can get motivated for, and purses which make him stay in the sport.
What is this Martinez era? LOL. Dude is not a hall of famer, merely a solid titlist in one of the weakest MW eras of all time.
