Um yeah, there are. When has Wlad ever been totally knocked unconscious by a single punch?

I'd say there are a few on general that might top it. But P4P it beats most classic threads' arses.

The idiocy of this statement astounds me slightly less than the fact there are some quoting it.

I think Seamus was referring to the fact that he spelled 'feint' add 'faint', as in 'the rock fainted and had to be revived'. Hence my 'desserts', like pie, and not deserts, like something you deserve.

Seamus is extremely bitter this thread didn't end up how he hoped and he has been reduced to making hit and run style posts about spelling.

    Bitter?

This thread has given me more joy than anything since my last child.

As far as hit and run, I will apologize for having gainful employment and not devoting my full time to triggering your erudite and thoughtful observations. But with the holidays winding down, perhaps I will visit this thread more often, bookmark it even.

So, feints as they work, and I have worked them to middling success, buy you how much time to close the distance? And how much distance both linear and vertical does Marciano have to close against a fighter of Wladmir's stature? Was Marciano better at the art of feinting than Chambers or Byrd? Was he "slicker"? How did that work out for those guys?

[absolutely] "People underrate just how fragile (mentally and physically) Wlad really is. He still has a slight panic reflex to getting hit with big shots, which tends to make him go for the clinch, cover up etc"

You mean: OVERrate Wlad's mental fragility. In other words, we think that Wlad's mental composure is akin to a lump of sugar.

    I'm not one of them.

I saw my man Sanders do that demolition job on Wlad, yet Klitschko still was trying to get up to fight. That takes big brass balls. Other people Sanders tagged cleanly simply sat down and waited to get counted out. So, no, I don't think Wlad is lily-livered.

However: he is unquestionable mentally weaker than Marciano, and he unquestionably has a lesser beard. These are the 'intangibles' that are, to be fair, hard to compare against Wlad's unquestionable advantage, his size.

What I've seen going on in this thread is huge hyping of these aspects to the detriment of a genuine discussion. That's pointless. Wlad is not going to go down to the first good shot Marciano lands, and neither is Marciano so outweighed that discussion is pointless. If weight was everything, then every other boxer would be Valuev's *****. Clearly that is not the case.

honestly, I see this fight being similar to Foreman vs. Frazier. Marciano being the Frazier part.

The two posts i entered into thread over the last few days took me no more than 5mins.

Yeah he was, and a lot more akward and harder to hit.

Byrd put in a pathetic attempt against Wlad. He stood right in front of him and tried to catch eveything Wlad threw on his gloves. Chambers is light fisted and it took Wlad 12 rounds to put him away.
As i said before, he is lucky enough his oppenents are willing to fight his fight.

Wlad is no Foreman, not in the slightest. Terrible comparison.

100% wrong as usual. He hugs desperately when a fighter gets close and doesn't let go till the ref breakes. On the offence , he hugs desperately after landing for fear of being cought.
His fighting style is built around protecting his chin at all times. That is a massive vulnerability and practicality the opposite of resilience.

The knockout's would not have been anymore devastating were it not for Wlads reaction.
A fresher, better conditioned Sanders put a worse beating on Rahman only for Rahman to rally back and knock Sanders out.

So the crux of your evaluation of Wlad is he has dominated the heavyweight division for as long as Marciano effectively had a career because of luck.

    Genius stuff.
