Briggs probably gassed more easily than any other heavyweight champ. It wasn't directly related to the weight though (mostly asthma). He paced himself better as he got older and put weight on, aside from the McCline fight which he seemingly didn't train at all for.

Mostly agree with the rest of what you said. Honestly, I think Gomez on his off-nights might've been the worst offender.

Briggs gassed because he always carried far too much muscle mass. That only got worse as he got older till it came to a point (the Ibragimov fight) where he was almost a totally immobile punchbag. Seriously, he's one of the worst conditioned top level heavies I've ever seen.

The fact that you think ****ing Solis was in "decent" condition" proves my point.

Are you honestly challenging me to find a fat guy from between the dates 1930-1960? A picture of an athlete who didn't train to optimal shape for a fight? You really think Steve Jobs invented being out of shape as a feature for the iPhone?

My God, Paddy Ryan is like a chiseled Adonis. Watch out where you point those guns, you might hurt somebody!

Fat Willie Meehan was the most out of shape boxer of all time.

He's never gassed or even lost a lot of rounds a fight. That's more than Tommy Morrison and others with little body fat can say.

I am not a major advocate of Paddy Ryan. Far from it in fact. It should be noted in his defence however, that this photograph was taken about six years after his last real fight, when he was just doing exhibitions.

I can't believe I have people even arguing against the idea that we have a higher percentage of fat heavyweights. Today

Just another case of how boxing has not "evolved" like some folks seem to believe.
