Ward may not be the same after surgery.

I don't understand why he decided to get surgery when there are no tears. It's likely Ward has an impingement and he should just bite the bullet and give it rest and time to heal. He should take a week off from doing any exercise as hard as that may be and then slowly integrate a calisthenics based rehabilitation program to ensure he heals properly.

In fact he can still work his legs hard while in rehab phase, but should not do barbell squats due to risk of irritating his impinged shoulder.

The surgeons and his team seem to be jumping the gun. He should take the 3 or 4 months it takes to heal and then fight a tune up in 6 months time.

I would hate to see his career potentially ruined.

    Thoughts?

The guy has everything in his favor. He doesn't rely on one thing like Jeff Lacy did. I don't think anything will change.

"Surgery" these days can be something as simple as poking a small hole to swab out a spot of blood, tissue, etc.

He probably just really needs more time.

Pretty sure experts/doctors advised him and he's smart enough to do surgery when it is actually needed. If it's not needed, why would he get surgery?

At the very least he should get a second or even a third opinion. I think doctors sometimes have a tendency to jump the gun.

    That Mercedes ain't free.

I've heard some stories where people didn't come back the same after surgery.

What makes you think he hasn't got alternative opinions yet?

That's a legit concern. I hope he's having the procedure done in the SF Bay Area. We have the greatest medical minds in the world here :good

So with recovery time, setting up a new fight, training camp, we will only see 1 Ward fight again this year huh?

When he retires I swear he will only have 35 fights.

So? That's more than Froch has now, and hes 7 years older.

In this game, injuries happen, and can cut careers short.

At least Ward will always know he achieved about the absolute most in the time he had. He's got bigger plans after boxing anyway.:good

It's a good point you make, not the 'why have the surgery', because i'm sure people around him and Ward himself and more importanty his doctor are a better judge of that. But this maybe effecting him in the long run. I hope it doesn't and it probabily won't. However we can never be certain how these things turn out. Sometimes when a fighter gets an injury of this nature it becomes cronic and keeps reccuring. I know the treatment has improved but i remember this happening to Buddy McGirt and it taking away his best punch.

Hopefully he is receiving solid medical advice and has weighed his available options. Too bad this happened right after his broken hand.

Now watch the Slappy nuthuggers call this a duck.

are you a doctor.? are you a surgeon.? have you examined ward and his shoulder thoroughly.?

and no, he isnt making a good point , he is doing the exact opposite. There“s a lot of assumptions based on a mercedes doesnt pay itself and ward and his team dont know what they are doing.

I'd assume at his level he's received multiple opinions on what he should do... Could be wrong though..
