Terry Norris pays the price for greatness

Terry was the hardest training fighter I've ever seen.

I remember him sparring ten, twelve and even more rounds daily in training at Tocco's then spend about a half hour on the sit-up bench - the guy was a non-stop training machine - sad to read about his health situation.

Terry is also one of only a few fighters (another "Terrible" comes to mind), to beat the brakes off of Don King in court to the tune of a seven-figure settlement.

He used to be one of my favourites to watch. I had no idea he was this poorly off. Great offensive machine. ATG sneer. Exciting, exciting fighter. What a shame.

 

This is a very sad story indeed.....I hope Terry Norris somehow finds a way to get a good and happy life.

 

We were discussing this very thing the other day in Classic. It was noted how even in some of the last fights he had, he was stumbling and appeared ready to fall over just moving around the ring. Shocking to think anyone would have given him a license even back then, let alone the aborted comeback attempt. Damn shame.

 

This is why all pro boxers should be respected they give up a hell of a lot for fans.

 

im a huge terry norris fan. would say he was my fav fighter to watch (retrospectively) around 2010/2011.


guy sparred way too much, had too many am fights in such a short amount of time, went to war way too many times. over trained. the way his feet dont plant on the floor

Well, yeah, but mostly the reason is that he was a boxer.

This kind of things makes it really hard to be a fan. Can't help loving the game, though.

 

You can hang your head for Terry Norris, he was a great champion and this is a shame to hear about...

However, the positive things in this article should be recognized. The Lou Ruvo center for brain health is doing awesome things with their studies of fighters and NFL players regarding dementia pugilistica and related Parkinsonisms. With all the suicides and everything else, it is really good to see someone doing something about it, trying to catch it early and study it.

It can do nothing but good for Boxing and Fight sports in general.

 

There still needs to be a national boxing/MMA/kickboxing commission in the US.

 

Man, I had no idea about Terry's current health condition. This is very sad to hear. These warriors really do put it all on the line.

 

100% proof that more damage was done during sparring/training than actual fights.

Terry norris was never really the same or had the same residence after being KOed by Julian Jackson.. Julian Jackson may have also contributed to Gerald McCullen issue also, sense it was documented that he suffered a concussion during their second fight, that was not addressed.

a 1 punch KO is the safest thing that could happen. getting pummeled in a 12 round fight for all 12 rounds is 100 times worse
