I don't buy his experience as an excuse in all honesty. He's had a long amateur career, what is it now 14 pro fights or so? He shouldn't be consecutively fighting over 40's. No way.
I think that he would only have to vacate if he doesnt fulfill his mandatory obligations or fights for the title proper....At least thats how it used to be

It's actually an embarrassing amount of money. It is £25,000. He will have to give 10% to his coach, 10-20% to his agent, pay for a training camp, flights, accomodation, per diems. Sparring partners at the top level are about £1k a week too. And then 20 - 40% tax on top. He'll be left with about £8,000 for his troubles. Martin Rogan turned DOWN £70,000 to fight Tyson Fury on Rogan's doorstep (literally in fact) before then fighting at the Odyssey Arena earlier this year, presumably for about £130,000. Is Maloney broke?!? No chance this fight happens :good
Id give him two more fights before i think he is taking the ****, fight Thompson then Towers for the Lonsdale and then step up and fight someone like wach for the European title.
Briggs purse was apparently agreed to be $750,000 (according to him) and he had a lawsuit as he had only been paid $25,000 of it. They claimed $500,000 or something like that. I think in the end Briggs got more then $40,000. I bloody hope so after the beating he took. But in grand scheme of things Maloney's showing himself up with big offers to Fury then tight as a ducks arse offers to Thompson.
Fair enough, In all honesty the Thompson fight isn't a joke, it's just a joke that's his 3rd consecutive 40+ plus opponent. Let's just hope Thompson turns up to win and not just for a few quid.
