A very sad story, but with some very positive silver linings. His quality of life has actually improved since he started working with doctors and methods to help all boxers are being developed.

I also think that excessive sparring is a precursor to this conditions; simply based on what I've read. Any body part needs time to heal, not giving yourself time off is a recipe for long term damage whether it is an ankle, knee or the brain.

exactly, fighter taking beating can have mental effect on fighter as well as physical . One punch KO have the same effect, people who don't understand this are ill informed .. Getting your lights turned out is brain damage, because that mean you have been hit hard enough to damage the brain, or smash it hard enough against the skull to black out.

I feel for him, I remember a football player for the Bears having the same ****, with memory loss and loss of motor skills from Parkinsons.

I won't hold my head down for him. He is still living and I choose to recognize and cherish his performances than wasting time feeling sorry for him, when he isn't feeling sorry for himself and doing his best to move on and try to turn a negative into a positive.

    Much respect to his accomplishments.

As for calls for national commissions, no thanks, it isn't perfect now, but it is better than it would be under the whims of a unified group of cronies nationally. At least now you can leave one group of cronies to go to a competiting group and that keeps them in check.

its much "safer" than a systemic beatdown

    just look a khan/prescott.

    then look at tito/vargas.

one fighter went on to win a world title with wins against pauli, mccloskey, zab, peterson, solita, kotelnyk and maidana and the other won a meaningless title and then went 6-4 in his last 10 fights after being previously unbeaten.

Norris was beautiful to watch. His combos were a thing of beauty and they were knock out punches. He wasn't just punching to land he was punching to knock your head off.

He's what Amir Khan might have been if he developed more power and proper technique and could throw every punch in the book.

No ALL boxers don't. And stop with the "they do it for the fans" bull****. They aren't doing it for us they are doing it for the money just like every other pro athlete.

Yeah because McClellan would drain the **** out of his body and taking Jackson's punches for 4+ rounds while severely drained will do damage to anyone.

Norris got hit by literally 2 shots the entire fight then went on to have a career at the elite level for about 8 years being the top dog and one of the greatest if not THE greatest at 154.

The facts just don't support your opinion.

I did a big paper on this in school and the people who researched the subject came to the same conclusion. The best thing they could do to preserve the health of fighters would be to limit sparring, though I have no idea how you would actually do that.

Wish I had the sources at hand, but this was like 10 years ago. :eek:ld

Yes sir. My old trainer was a former ranked heavyweight. He he didnt have that many fights, he took a few brutal knockouts, people think he retired but he was actually forced too. He slurs, i handed him a water bottle one day and he couldnt even grab it with one of his hands he had to use only his right to hold things. Part of his brain took more punishment. Its blunt force trauma

the damage done is usually the most at the end of a fighters career. When they are young they usually do not take much punishment.
