...and I wouldn't actually mind seeing it again if I'm honest (a rematch that is, not rewatching the 1st bout again).

Marquez was slow and lethargic in the first bout, but, he did land on occasion, and he landed clean. Of course these were only snippets of a dominant performance in favour of Mayweather, but recent events now have me intrigued. Mayweather from recent bouts is slowly declining (particularly his reflexes), his style has changed more in favour of conserving energy, less foot movement, more planted feet, like I said, intrigued.

Not saying Marquez can pull the victory off, but I think he can make it more competitive, and even though he himself looked slow against Pacquiao, his timing was still there, and looked to be hitting very hard (understatement?).

I wouldn't mind seeing Marquez retire on a massive KO of Pacquiao, but I also wouldn't mind seeing this. Nice little paycheck, good storyline to build up the rematch. And it's not like Mayweather has too many more options at 147lbs, and I can't see him making the trip back up 154lbs anytime soon.

Have a rewatch of their first encounter and let me know your opinions. :good

Kinda pointless to me, wouldn't be much different the second time around and neither boxing fans nor Mayweather really gain anything from it.

I get it hype the smaller guys make a case and feed them to Floyd so he looks better than what he is. No sir its time Floyd fight a legit welter or jr middle in his prime

I held the same opinion before last night to be honest. Didn't see the point, then rewatched and realised Marquez did land clean more than the one punch my memory remembered. :conf

You think I'm hyping Mayweather? You really took that from what I wrote? You get it do you? :think

    1. Marquez clearly proved he was a legit Welter, whether he fights Mayweather again or not.
    2. Given Mayweather is a small Light Middle, why does he need to fight up there?
    3. Mayweather is not quite prime anymore IMO.

    Just for me personally,

Seeing JMM winning 4 rounds, instead of 2.... just doesnt do anything for me.

Too many better, more exciting fights to be made for both guys, for me to want to see this again.

    Just imo.

I get where youre coming from though Anthony :good Its just not a fight I personally can get excited in any way about.

No your hyping the fight your hyping Marquez and selling us the bull**** that his new Strength and Conditioning program will make a difference no it wont Mayweather is just too big and style wise that fight does not suit him well.

Mayweather is a small light middle, but was big enough to go there and fight both Oscar and Cotto, while little iddy biddy Pac fought Margarito there, and fought some big welters himself why should Floyd go up and fight there very simple thats where he is fighting at thats where he last fought at in other words what I see here is just an excuse being made up to keep Floyd fighting little guys.

You want to say your better than Pacquiao start taking some of the risk Pacquiao took...

marquez had 0 chance and the second fight wouldnt be much of a difference.

juan is a counter puncher, but floyd rarely attacks therefore he can't counterpunch ****. floyd is mroe athletic and faster than him and has far better reflexes.

the thing is this. when you just compare the two man numbers of reach, height than you can see that both dont belong in a ring with each other. floyd is just simply much bigger and taller than marquez. floyd should fight guys his own size.

also marquez was way to tentetive in the may bout, he shouldve attacked more and pressed the action, like hatton tried and was succesful by times. just unlesh flurrys after flurry, jose castillo style.

a marquez same size like floyd would been competitive, but as reality goes floyd just the bigger and better boxer.

Don't get me wrong, I'd still rather see bouts with new opposition, maybe test himself up at 154lbs against the very best, and unrealistically, against Martinez. I just don't see it happening though. He hasn't looked his best at 154lbs, and I doubt we see him there.

Just having watched that bout again last night, kinda made me want to see this new Marquez testhimself against a declining Mayweather.

nah man I totally hear you :good

But even from the Marquez perspective.... its just not a fight Im excited about.

Id rather see any of the following

    Marquez vs Rios
    Marquez vs Bradley
    Marquez vs Matthysse
    Marquez vs Garcia

    then JMM vs Mayweather again.

For one, they are all winnable fights for JMM, and would add to his legacy (which could use some enhancement for a guy whos as great as JMM, IMO) and would all be truly exciting fights.... things Id be pumped to see.

The chances JMM makes a 2nd fight against Mayweather a better go? Pretty good... hell, maybe he even doubles the amount of rounds he won in the first fight, and is able to make Mayweather work harder then he had to their first fight, in the end.... its just going to be a Mayweather UD (I dont think anyone would seriously consider JMM beating Mayweather... this is all about watching JMM make the fight more competetive then the first)

And for me, thats just not enough (tuning in to watch JMM be more competetive)

But ay man I hear where youre coming from :good Theres worse fights out there then watching two p4p masters duke it out. But my personal stance is pretty firm on this one, its just not a fight Im remotely interested in JMM taking.

I would not mind it purely cause i think JMM could do better although based on styles and physical attributes he really can not win.

That said offer him a huge pay day (which he completely deserves at this point) and lets rumble.

Good farewell fight for JMM as noone expects him to win and he can cash out huge, and Mayweather can fight the guy that beat Pac.

JMM has deserved a 10+ mil payday for a long time.

Not really hyping the bout, I offered my opinion, and I asked your opinions. I didn't turn around and say, this bout will be more competitive because of this, Marquez will do better because of this...and I not once mentioned strength and conditioning. I offered my opinion by stating I think he could possibly be more competitive, it's not one of these bull**** threads were someone tells everyone he will be more competitive, and here is why [insert bull**** agenda]

Like I said, he didn't look his best up at the weight, so I don't think he'll make a trip back up there unless a lot of money is on offer for Canelo.

Well, you are looking for something that is not there, and is not even close to being implied. I am talking about me being intrigued by the matchup again after my viewing last night, no mention of weight, or catchweights, or height/reach advantages, etc.

Now I remember why I don't start Mayweather threads. :-(
