No problem, i like listening to Mike talk boxing he knows alot he would be great as a boxing analyst for HBO i think
Dempsey never ended up totally down and out...however he did have money problems (he even talks about it in his autobiography) he lost allot of money in the stock market crash (which was one of the reasons why he did exhibitions and wrestling).
Yeah his restaurant was his last thing really and when that closed it was unfortunately the end for him.
Yeah, sucked how his restaurant closed...it was actually still making money (i have photos of my grandmother and great aunt..both passed now....at Dempsey s..they didn't meet him however) however Dempsey did not own the property, and the owners decided they could make more money with something else. I don't know if losing the place exactly killed him though...he had a few more healthy years...than had a stroke and died awhile later after being in bad shape. Up until his stroke though he was still mentally sharp...
Yeah i think the resturaunt was something for him too do after it was gone he didn't really have much else to get up for ect
Maybe if he had defended his title a few more times instead of sitting on it and playing man-about-town he'd have banked a little more.
I remember reading Dempsey saying his last wife introduced him to opera and he'd really developed a love for it.
