Are argument can be made for DM being the linear champ @ 175 when Jones was running around with his paper light heavyweight titles...
He ain't lineal... Because He/I know Vitali would whoop his azz. But other that Vit, yup nobody can Fux with him.
Wlad klitschko and Roy Jones, both great champions in their respective divisions both had a long period of dominance. I don't care what they're seen as champions of be it paper, rock is scissors. They were the number 1 and that's all that matters.
:good Wlad unifies the titles. He beat the No. 1 Heavyweight in 2006 Chris Byrd. Byrd beats Vitali in 2000 and get too less credit for this win. Wlad is the Ring Magazine Champion too and the IBO Champion after Lewis vacate the belt with his win over Chris Byrd in 2006.
Vitali wouldn't beat Wlad, not now not prime for prime. Vitali doesn't have the power to end Wlad quickly and Wlad punches harder and sharper than Lewis, and unlike Lewis, Wlad doesn't need to go on the inside to be able to beat Vitali. Vitali either gets rocked by a left hook and then it's over or it becomes tko6 all over again.
What's the relevance of 'lineal titles' anyways? IMO it is largely an exercise for US boxing journalists with nothing else to talk about. Nobody else in the world cares.
Nay_Sayer and Dinovelvet are the biggest Klithaters on the forum. Just ignore them in a thread about the K brothers.
Tough to say, Vitali by many accounts was lineal after Lennox then he retired for 3 or 4 yrs, did Wlad beat Sultan and Chagaev before Vitali came back I cant remember I mean lets see J. Johnson was champ, Jeffries came back and Johnson was still champ Tunney retired, they quickly reestablished the lineage i think this lineal business has become overly complicated Vitali retired in 04, by 05 after 2 losses Wlad beat Peter and before Byrd 2 I'm sure the majority of the boxing world knew Wlad was the best heavyweight on the planet at that point to me he is basically lineal
Wlad beat Ibragimov before Vitali comes back. Chagaev after the comeback. Before Byrd 2 the most boxing experts thought Wlad is done!!!! Only Emanuel Steward and Wlad himself believes in him. Wlad fought his way back to the Top.
He's been number 1 in the division since Wlad-Byrd II (2006-04-22) & has had 12 fights since. I disagree that Wlad beating Byrd twice who beat Vitali automatically makes him lineal as Vitali beat Wlad's conquerors Sanders & Purity. I also think the idea that Vitali was lineal because he lost bravely to Lewis ridiculous. Wlad has been number 1 for nearly 7 years but he's not fought the #2 guy in all that time (mainly because most of the time it's been his brother)
I think one thing that needs to be said in Wladimir's favor is that the "#2 guy" was constantly in flux during this time. All of the titles changed hands at least twice (other than the IBF of course). By the time a #2 guy was established, he would lose and then a new #2 guy was put in his place. Nearly impossible to pin anyone down long enough as the definitive number 2 that Wladimir could even face. The following are the title lineages for the heavyweight titles during Vitali's absence. WBC: Vacant -> Rahman -> Maskaev -> Peter WBA: Ruiz -> Valuev -> Chagaev -> Valuev (dubious circumstances) WBO: Brewster -> Liakhovich -> Briggs -> Ibragimov -> W. Klitschko
Wladimir-Chagaev is the fight which crowned a new Lineal champion - if you allow for Wladimir not boxing Vitali. Cyber Boxing Zone and The Ring agree on this, though the newly-created TBR don't. "Have a poll then stfu."
