Who's greater: De la Hoya or Shane Mosley?

and lets also sum up the twilight of their career, Oscar out performed Mosley when he fought Mayweather, Shane landed one meaningful shot and stood there getting beat up all night :deal

 

Shane short-changed his own legacy by chasing DLH up to 147. He would have been greater than Aaron Pryor at 140.

At first I almost agreed with you about the tougher opponents since Oscar never faced Winky and,Forrest, but lets not forget Oscar's balsy fights against Hopkins, prime Trinidad, and prime Quartey. Mosley never faced Hopkins, Trinidad, or Quartey either. So actually I give Oscar not only in resume, but tougher fighters. After Vargas Oscar wasn't anywhere close to his prime. Mosley obviously had better longetivity and aged better. In the rematch Oscar looked and fought amazing he outclassed Mosley and should of won more convincingly than Mosley did the first time. The first time he fought Mosley's fight, the rematch Oscar developed his right hand and even Mosley complained he had no answer for Oscar's jab and hook. Rematch more of a chess game Oscar clearly won.

 

Oscar beat his contemporaries Ike, Tito, Vargas, and rematch with Mosley. Only clear loss was to Hopkins and first Mosley fight. Oscar never belonged at 160 and he was done by the time Pacquiao thrashed him. Great career.

 

If you watch their fight at junior middleweight, it was very clear that Mosley did not win both fights.

 

I don't know. Oscar was great at 140. It would have been a great fighter at 140 also, and probably better than Shane. I think Oscar wins at 140. His counter left at that weight was incredible. Those 7 pounds made a big difference on him, and with Khan it will make a big difference also, just by looking at his body. Khan cannot hold 147 too well. Oscar held it ok, but he was not a tall welterweight like he was a tall 140 pound fighter.

 

I feel the same way, would've really loved to see Shane involved in some meaningful fights at 140.

 

Oscar was a legit 5'10"-5'10.5", though. On top of that, he always had a very large frame and would eventually have died trying to continually make 140.

Shane, on the other hand, skipped 140 entirely. While he had enough speed to get by Oscar at 147, early welterweight Shane had not truly grown into the division. His punches were more annoying than anything.

Not to mention that Forrest basically tossed him around like a ragdoll...

 

You guys are completely forgetting about Mosleys dominance at 135. I think Mosley was the better talent and he proved when they fought head to head. Resume is much trickier to determine but I think Shane was greater because of the challenges he took on.

 

I just don't put Forrest in a higher esteem than a prime Quartey, and I feel the same about Wright when compared with Trinidad.

 

And Shane was dominant at 135, but who did he really fight there? 140 would have defined him.
