Each rematch was only necessary because of the result of the previous fight

    First fight - Draw
    Second fight - Close decision
    Third fight - Controversial decision
Fourth fight - Knock out win

Why is there a need for a 5th? many true boxing fans ultimately accept Juan Manuel Marquez as the better fighter and the fourth fight hit the nail on the head.

Marquez should have had the option to retire or go after Timothy Bradley for the title he should have won back in 2011, a cinco de mayo fight against Robert Guerrero or even a rematch with Floyd Mayweather

I for one am hoping Marquez-Bradley happens and for Pacquiao to fight a nice solid comeback against Mallignaggi (pick up the WBA belt) the winner of Alexander-Brook for the IBF or hell even go for a brawl with Marcos Maidana.

A 5th fight would be made in hopes of Marquez ageing overnight, so manny can get a clear win over him. That and to line the pockets of all involved

I'm sure it would be a decent fight, BUT if a million people will still buy it despite the complaints, they'll still have it.

People want to see a great action fight. My question: Isn't Pac-Rios or Pac-Alvarado a great action fight as well? Why can't we see something new and fresh? And why can't these young upcomers get a chance? JMM has already had numerous shots. Let someone else get a shot at Pac (or JMM).

People want Pac to have a chance to avenge his loss. My question: If he had numerous opportunities to KO Marquez but couldn't do it, what makes you think he can do it in a 5th fight? JMM gets better with every fight. Check the history. Also, part 4 was a chance for Pac to avenge his loss in 3rd fight. If Pac really believed he won part 3, he would've never fought JMM again.

5 is a bad idea for both fighters unless all they care about is money. If Pac fights JMM again Pac is desperate and can't accept a loss. If JMM agrees to fight, Juan looks like a cherry picker who thinks getting 10 wins over Pac will enhance his legacy (obviously it doesn't!). Juan needs to beat Bradley or Rios or Garcia to climb even higher on the ATG ladder. Or maybe another shot at Floyd (?)

Well its not as if theres a shortage of opponents to choose from :

Marcos Maidana - Currently climbing up the WBA rankings, never in a boring fight and could make quite the impression if Pac could stop him (which IMO he can)

Paulie Mallignaggi - Despite his lack of punching power the magic man has always operated close to world level having picked up the IBF 140 belt and the WBA 147 belt too as well as challenging for the WBO/WBA versions of the 140 against Khan and Miguel Cotto. He was looking for a big money rematch with Hatton but Pacquiao is a much bigger draw

Kell Brook / Devon Alexander - a win-win situation for pac. Kell brook wins and that sets up a fight with a fan base back in the uk and familiarity with british fans after the hatton ko. If Alexander wins then Pac gets to take a bigger cut of the pie and pick up a belt along the way against a two weight world champion in Alexander

Mike Jones - Fellow toprank fighter, all stays in house like bob wants it and also suffering a KO loss all be it to a much more limited fighter. a nice easy touch to ease pac back in

Luis Carlos Abregu - Not exactly a tough fight but he is coming of an upset win over hot prospect thomas dulorme via tko. only loss on his record is to bradley and would likely give pac a few rounds

Brandon Rios - former lightweight world champion and coming off a big win over Mike Alvarado as well as being a fellow top rank fighter.

Lucas Matthysse - Would make a huge impact if Pac were to fight the most avoided fighter at 140 and win. Im sure Lucas wouldnt say no

Amir Khan - Former stable mate on the comeback from a ko loss, would have a good build up considering their history not to mention their experience against each other

Danny Garcia - WBA/WBC king at 140, has become quite the knockout artist as of late becoming only the second person to ever stop Erik Morales (the first being pacquiao himself) would raise a lot of eyebrows

Vylaschev Senchenko (apologies if i got the name wrong) - Former WBA champ at 147 coming off an upset win over Ricky Hatton

Andre Berto - Not exactly been active leading up to his loss to robert guerrero but would be a great fight considering berto has never been stopped

Victor Ortiz - former WBC 147 champ/ Coming back from a ko loss also (quit on his stool v lopez) billed as a big puncher

Jose Sito Lopez - Holds an upset win over Ortiz and recently challenged canelo alvarez for the 154 title. makes for an exciting fight

Timothy Bradley 2 - not that id like to see this sack of **** again but he would be avenging a highly disputed loss and gain back his old WBO belt.

Randal Bailey - former two weight world champion, knocked out stable mate Mike Jones in KO of the year candidate

See? plenty of other viable opponents for Pac but nooooo we have to see the same recycled fight all over again

No offense but some people never fail to impress me with their stupidity. How can anyone question why a fifth fight isn't necessary when we had four GREAT fights to enjoy? That said, do you honestly consider the result of the fourth fight completely final?, even when Pacquiao was leading and dominating only to get caught overexcited by a cautious, troubled/hurt yet smart and unexpectedly coherent Marquez?

If that's not enough let's look at it another way then. Remember when the great "Mexican brothers" of Marquez completely ignored him back when it mattered the most and never gave him a shot in hell only to see Pacquiao come out of the blue and give him the chance he truly proved he deserves? Despite the fight being a draw, Pacquiao offered Marquez a rematch only to see Marquez price his self out and fight Morales instead. Even after that, Pacquiao could have ignored Marquez but gave him a rematch. Then comes the third fight at a time when Pacquiao, yet again, could have completely ignored Marquez without getting ANY criticism for it whatsoever based on Marquez' complete failure to impress at the weight against Mayweather. Still Pacquiao gave him the shot and Marquez yet again, thanks to Pacquiao's chances, proved to be worthy. The fourth fight could have also been ignored since Pacquiao could have easily gone for Bradley, but no, Pacquiao gave him a shot when he didn't have to YET AGAIN. After all of that, you expect Marquez to completely turn his back on the man that gave him all these ridiculous chances?, especially when this is the very first time Pacquiao needs him.

Hope this post explains why a fifth fight is indeed necessary.

First off the first four fights were great and each fight was validated by the need of a clear winner. Pac got KTFO.

And yes Malignaggio, Maidana, Brook, Khan, even Senchenko.

Bute fought Denis Grachev who was coming off an upset win over Ismayl Silakh after Bute's loss to Froch.

There are plenty of people other than Marquez Pacquaio can fight.

That's because you're a diehard pacquiao fan who will justify anything.

manny was leading by only a point before he got stopped, but he was in no way dominating the fight. This was the first time Marquez knocked him down for ffs.

Marquez beat him wide the third time but was robbed. He then proceeded to knock manny to sleep the fourth fight. Beat him once with a strong decision, and beat him again with a brutal ko. That's final. What more do you want Marquez to do in order to prove he's the better fighter? Assault manny in the ring and turn him into a vegetable?

I don't know why you're spouting so much rubbish. manny isn't this altruistic give to charity person when it comes to his opponent selection. He chose to fight Marquez after he exhausted all his other big name make money opponent options first. manny cherry picks margarito and Mosley before allowing the third Marquez fight to happen. He realized how old Marquez was and delayed it until it was the only big name make money fight option left. manny's plan of Marquez age catching up to him inevitably backfires as Juan upsets him. Of course, manny had the robbery set up in place. The fourth fight then occurs because manny was trying to save face and had to follow through with his plan. He made a robbery happen in order to make money off a rematch. What's he going to do? Not follow up with his money making idea?

If manny was as generous to Marquez as you claim, he would have taken a third fight with Marquez much sooner. Did he do that? No. When proposed with a rematch after the second fight he answers, "I don't think so. This business is over."

Marquez earned the rematches by actually winning the fights only to get robbed on the scorecards.

Pacquiao only gave Marquez those rematches because he believed he would win due to Marquez's poor showing prior.

2nd fight - Marquez dropped by Barrera prior to fight. took place 4 years after the first matchup

3rd fight - Marquez loss to Mayweather (dropped) hard fight against Juan Diaz prior to that and was knocked down at 135 by Michael Katsidis. 3 years after the second fight

4th fight - Pacquiao loses an upset to Bradley despite many having him ahead. No one wants to see the rematch and instead has no choice but to rematch Marquez who clearly won the 3rd fight

    Why?

Because Pacquiao's stock drastically declined after that KO, he needs to redeem himself against the man who damn near killed him, then he can take on more big money fights. It's all about the money......
