Do guys avoid hitting Mayweather's left side of the body (ie kidney area) and the most exposed area within that the back of the kidney, because it illegal and considered a 'rabbit shot?" Yet I've seen boxers throw shots to that area outside a clinch, as normal as ever, and niether refs or commentators say anything about it.
Yea kidney shots are illegal. The most popular body shot to use against someone in the shell is that straight right hand to the body. Castillo landed a mean one on Floyd in the eighth round of their first fight when Floyd was near the ropes. It literally looked like it could have fold someone over. I believe you could hear the noise of the impact too. Ortiz too landed a hard right hook to the body while Floyd was in his shell. props to Mayweather for conditioning himself to have an iron body and being strong willed. I haven't even seen him flinch when the rare hard bodyshot manages to land on him.
Not surprisngly B-Hop gots away with doing it in clinches pretty blatantly. I was amazed by Calzaghes ability to wave those off too
hes in great shape so he can take them well. but if u choose to go to the body he will counter u . he gotta answer for it all
Yo newbie, a rabbit punch is behind the head and kidney punches are illegal. Besides that, Floyd's reflexes are so fast that if you reach toward his body your face will pay for it.
Floyd got a great right uppercut counter when his opponent attack his body. He does it so quick it almost seem automatic.
I was going to say, if you're hungry for some quick uppercuts and getting your head snapped back, go for it. The poster above already mentioned. You have to get close to Floyd in order to hit him with an effective body punch. Floyd won't let you get close to him.
Cotto beat Floyd's right side like a step child RD's 6-8, until he hit his usual 11Rd limit. Floyd's defense ain't what it was. Cotto exposed Floyd's "D" can't take the "Left"
Because of his speed and positioning, it's very difficult to get to the right side of his body without getting hit by a counter straight right. He does that pretty much all the ****ing time, and it does seem to have a pretty good snap to it. Used to be, after getting rubber up their face 16 times out of the 20 times they tried the left hook to the body, Floyd's opponents at FW and LW just didn't even bother anymore after a few rounds.
I think the main reason why Cotto was able to make Mayweather look vulnerable was because of his ridiculously sharp jab. Cotto always had a great jab and great timing, he's actually a lefty, and Floyd's defense always seemed pretty susceptible to a sharp, stiff jab. It's ATG and all that, but I think the one punch Floyd has always seemed to struggle the most with (if his opponent can beat him to it) is the jab.
I know refs call rabbit punches all the time, but rarely do I see them warn people for kidney shots. Anyone got vidz of or a particular fight in mind where the ref does that?
The right hand to the body is a risky but very open since it's hard for Floyd to reach his low left arm so far leftwards without compromising his defense up the middle. This content is protected The Philly shell is sometimes even more vulnerable to a southpaw right hook. DeMarco barely landed **** on Broner on the inside, but one shot he never missed was the right hook to the body. The trick of course is to land it without reaching and eating something worse in return.
God, I was going crazy when Cotto had Floyd on the ropes and landing body shots at will. This content is protected
