Sonny might have had a heavier jab, but the jab isn't a power punch and shouldn't be rated as such. Wlad, without doubt, has a faster, more versatile and more stylistically indispensable jab than Liston, and a much better command of distance. If Liston landed consistently enough of course he'd have the goods to stop Wlad, but so have a number of past opponents who were shut down and dominated by a man whom they were supposed to stop with the first decent punch they landed. Liston's jab would keep him in the fight for a decent amount of time simply due to its power and length, but it would not open any useful opportunities for him unless he were to seriously stun Wlad with it or open up a cut, cause a swelling etc. It was simply too slow and Wlad's footwork is too good to be caught by any follow up punches.
Which of these fighters who were supposed to stop Wlad had the technical skills he did? or power similar to his?, which of them had the jab he had ? or the left hook? His 84 inch reach would help aswell
The most ridiculous post ive ever read. Where do you base this **** from? What level of fighter has he ever faced that comes close to any of them to give you a guage on how he matches up?
Louis and Marciano would get eaten up by Coetzee, Dokes, Weaver, Page, Valuev, Maskaev, Ruiz, Haye etc. ??? Also name some quality opponents that Wlad stopped early given you've got him stopping damn near 50% of the fighters listed early.
Ray Mercer was probably the closest Wlad ever got to fighting someone with Liston's style and physical attributes, and there was a very short period in that fight where Mercer outjabbed Wlad and marked him up. It's not much to go on considering he was totally busted up for the remainder of the fight, but it at least shows that Wlad is not immune to a slow steam pole jab like Liston possessed. If Liston can consistently land he might have some success, especially if he can establish a rhythm that might counteract his deficiencies in speed. Cotto has a similar jab that he's able to land against faster fighters because it's so well timed, and Liston's reach would help him here as well. If Wlad can outjab him however, or utilise his quicker feet to stay out of range, then that lessens Liston's chances, not catastrophically so, but he'd be forced to bulling away on the inside, something which I think he possessed the size and strength to do, but which would also expose him to shots as he was coming in. Actually, the more I think about the breakdown of this fight the more intrigued I am by it. Allow me to sit a little on the fence with this one.
One might think as the New Year dawns you might have made a resolution not to be such a foul-mouthed disrespectful douche. No luck, it seems.
He has managed to clone Rocky Marciano and is personally overseeing his training in a secret governmental testing facility. Rock has had access to the best modern nutrition, roids and JMM's pee pee, he has also been told that Wlad is a Russian spy and looking to spread communism to the America's. Rock should be ready to first round cataclysm type knockout Wlad by the end of the year.
