Hey I'm trying to get my round the BW divsion and it is more difficult to rate than any others I've done so far. I reckon these guys might be the top 20 in history but I'm unsure of how realistic I'm being. Any criticisms, pointers would be much appreciated: Eder Jofre Manuel Ortiz Carlos Zarate Fighting Harada Ruben Olivares Panama Al Brown Kid Williams Sixto Escobar Pete Herman Joe Lynch Terry McGovern George Dixon Lionel Rose Jeff Chandler Orlando Canizales Rafael Marquez Rafael Herrera Bud Taylor Memphis Moore Johnny Coulon Jimmy Barry
I think the Flyweights are harder to rate, but yeah, tough division...... IMHO the top 5 is Jofre, Ortiz, Al Brown, Olivares and Zarate....... You put the list in order, luf ? In that case, why would you rate Al Brown so low ? I mean, he has to be pretty high in terms of H2H and dominance.....two criterias that everyone use to rate.....and we can say his resume is pretty up there with anyone I must say......
I was unsure about his inclusion as he wasn't around the division for a huge time and his win over chucho is a bit controversial. I might have missed Herrera out as well.
Canizales, Chandler and Marquez are too high. You could have George Dixon, Rafeal Herrera, Johnny Coulon, Jimmy Carruthers above them. McGovern and Lynch are too low. I would have Olivares ahead of Harada. Panama Brown and Pete Herman above kid Williams. Zarate and Ortiz for number two is a toss-up. I agree with Jofre as number 1.
I dont know too much about Dixon as a BW tbh. Coulon was a guy I nearly had in but decided against at the last minute. The names aren't in a specific order it's just how i listed them. Although i do think chandler belongs in the top 10.
Are you sure they're not in order? lol because that's a pretty good list and very close to how i'd rank them, apart from the omissions. Must just be coincidence. :good
well it's only the first time I've ever listed BW fighters so I'm not speaking on any position with conviction. So strictly speaking I'd call it an interim ranking but not one I'm trying to defend because like I say it's my first attempt. Barry for me was the first great BW. the barsetter. He has to be in my list as he's the measure of greatness.
As of now, where would you rate Jimmy Barry? I ask because I understand how difficult it can be to rank him.
