Boxrec says... "...Campaigning in every class from flyweight to heavyweight, Carpentier held either the French, European, or world championships in four different weight divisions. A quick-fisted, intelligent fighter, Carpentier also packed a sizable punch for a man of his dimensions and fought at least ten bouts against men who were either world champions or future hall of famers. Handsome, gentlemanly, and a decorated war hero, he attracted many to the sport who would not normally be fans of boxing on both sides of the Atlantic. His popularity helped, alongside that of Jack Dempsey, to generate boxing's first million dollar gate."

And what about Duran climbed 10 division, from bantamweight to super middleweight?

the division were you start don't count.

because you started in that division and didnt climbed it. after your logic starting from light flyweight manny than climbed 11 divisions up to light middleweight counting in light flyweight.

Hey man, good stuff. I wouldn't include Pac's "154" campaign, so it's a tie I guess. But hardly matters, the fact that you gotta go to Duran to find a point of reference says it all.

It's humourous because it's become so frequent, but on a serious note Chavez record has become underrated. I already said how I feel about Taylor on page 1 or 2, but guys like Lockridge, Rosario, Ramirez were Top Level opponents. Chavez was stepping up to Lightweight (already having wins over Lockridge, Castillo, Laporte, Uncle Roger, Martinez at 130) and plenty of observers felt he'd fold under Rosario's exceptional power. Instead, we got a clinical beatdown and arguably his greatest performance. Do people honestly think a faded Chavez was still (primarily) favored over Whitaker because he'd beaten sub-standard opposition? Really? So Chavez was #1-2 P4P 1988, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93 for beating cab drivers? No assholes, he was one of the most complete two-fisted fighting machines ever.

As you mention that performance agaisnt Rosario, There has not been a better display of in-fighting skills as that performance in the past 30 years.

One of the finest dispay of inside fighting skills in the history of the sport.

Has a strong case for being the GOAT when it comes to body punching and cutting off the ring, dude was the perfect pressure fighter, and his record in title fights is ****ing ridiculous. 31-4-2

I find it funny how some people like to use the Whitaker fight to bash on Chavez...Yeah Julio was so overrated and was never that good because he was outboxed by Pernell...No, you ****ing idiots, thats because Pernell Whitaker happens to be one of the MOST complete and skilled fighters of all time and would completly school anyone at 147lbs today in similar fashion if not worse. :deal

    Boom! :deal

... And Taylor, I feel bad for him, I really do. He was one of the Top 5-6 P4P guys in the sport when that fight took place in the aftermath of Tyson-Douglas. ATG talent and that night he performed like one. However, the Legendary Nights myths have spun it out of control and I've come to terms with it. I'm sorry, but when your face is swollen lopsided, you've got facial fractures, you're pissing blood and have vital organs trying to shut down on you, that isn't a schooling. The guy had ****ing super-human speed and almost pulled it off, but Chavez was landing plenty and slipping and rolling more bullets than what it appears even though his chin was that ****in good as well. He never for one second got down on himself or relented, it was his iron mentality, relentlessness, savage punching and will that carried him through... And after, still had wins over Hector Camacho, Terrence Ali, Greg Haugen to hold onto his spot going into the Whitaker fight. Was a helluva run.

Taylor along with his crazy speed had a riduculous work rate that was finding him alot of success against Julio on the inside, but at the same time, it came at a horrible cost of getting battered and slowly getting broken down and eventually stopped in the 12th.

And Chavez was showing some great head and upper boddy movement in that fight. There are many sequences where he would brilliantly slip and parry many of Meldricks flurries, only for the HBO team to dickride Taylor hard, praising him for shots that he clearly didnt land at all.
