Which makes is win over him even more worthless. All Tua had was a punch, but in the 90's it would probably have been enough to beat Byrd.
Jeff Wooden, Nicholson,Maskaev, Rahman and Oquendo were all out boxing Tua easily until getting caught. If they can do it a fighter who specialises in being slick, defensive and elusive surely should.
I dont ever remember there being any big puish for this fight to happen. Dont remember anyone saying they wanted to see this fighyt at the time. Its like saying Lewis ducked Ruiz. No one wanted to see that fight at the time
It's really not that easy to name 5. My choice would be Vitali, Holyfield twice and then no idea. Ruddock? Prime Golota? Frank Bruno? Shot Tyson? Lewis has a victory over VK, but his performance and the result itself were debatable. So was his draw against Holyfield. Tyson was shot when he finally faced Lewis.
This is my point. Outside of Holyfield, who obviously stands alone, you are left with Tysons corpse, Botha, Grant, Mavrovic, Tua, Morrison. Now don't get me wrong and I'm not trying to turn this into an anti Lewis or Klitschko's v Lewis thread, they are all very good wins but which one of the fighters I've mentioned would you favour to beat Byrd or has a better c.v?
I'm a fan of Lewis and personally believe him to be the best head to head fighter I've seen, but I do consider it a mark on his legacy that he never fought a southpaw. It's just odd. It's not like no good southpaws existed. In the case of Byrd we have to consider two factors. His slickness, and his blackness. Lewis rarely fought slick fighters (did he fight any?), so perhaps that's why he avoided Byrd. Or was it his blackness? Lewis only lost to black fighters. Byrd was a slick, black southpaw.
No, I don't remember that one, refresh my memory please. I remember Byrd behind on the cards when Kllitschko quit after 9 rounds due to an injured shoulder. He shouldn't have quit and he knows this. He has been making up for it ever since. Vs. Lewis he fought very well and did not quit, the fight was stopped due to cuts but Vitali wanted to continue. He hasn't lost since. Vitali has never been down. Lewis on the other hand was down and out twice but I admit that he was one of the best HWs ever.
You still trying to get back at me for all the times i clowned you in my threads! Whats wrong with you this time? You think Byrd ia a good HW? You can have him. Prime Tua would of split him in two.
