If Martinez sat down on his punches at 154 the way he does now, I'd like his chances a lot more. As it is though, it's hard to favor him since he really only came in to his own at middleweight and doesn't exactly have the most decorated resume below there. The same qualification applies to an Oscar match-up: even though I think Martinez would be a match-up nightmare for Oscar in the abstract, he unfortunately didn't get and didn't win enough fights at 154 for one to make him a clear favorite in such a fight.
People are clueless about styles. It's pathetic. How did Oscar outbox Tito? Uh...he used his legs and handspeed. On top of these characteristics, Martinez is naturally bigger than Oscar and a better all around fighter at 154 and up. Tito stands relatively straight up and Martinez would score at will with straight left hands to the body. Tito's best weapon is his left hook, and it's highly doubtful that Martinez would be tagged much by that punch considering both their style's and stances. I'll give Tito the benefit of the doubt and say he survivies, but he does not have enough for Martinez. Hopkins would beat Martinez. Hopkins has the counterpunchings style to Martinez out of his element, but it still wouldn't be easy. Tito would play right into Martinez' hands. People bring up Chavez, but the man was a crusierweight in the ring, and took a hell of a beating, and only won what, 1 round?
You are if Tito's hooks slide off Martinez' back. On top of that, beggining in round one, Martinez would be landing straight left hands to Tito's body and rotating. Martinez also has enough power to make fighters very hesitant. Look at Chavez. He gave Martinez some problems initially because he was wary of Martinez' power and made Martinez lead often. I don't think Martinez anticipated he would have to lead as much as he did considering Chavez is known as a warrior. If Martinez had to lead against Tito, it would be less of a problem because Tito doesn't have the significant size advantage that Chavez had. Besides, Martinez would pot shot if it came to that, and Tito would be put into a hole. It would be very difficult to tag Martinez coming in with a left hook due to his style. Martinez picks him apart early, stops him late, more than likely. I don't see Tito standing up to his power, nor his body attack if he fights like he usually does. Martinez is a serious puncher.
No but it was Oscar's fault Don King stole the fight from him just like he stole the fight from Lennox the same year :deal No hate, I just know Tito can't deal with consistent jabs and good foot movement. wright's feet aren't even that great and he did whatever he wanted with Trinidad with a jab So did Oscar :hi:
Martinez fades Tito got stronger as the fight went on and he was big 154er too. Undefeated at 147 and 154. Martinez is good but Tito was better at 154 at 160 i can see Martinez winning. I will give you that Tito was horrible at 160 and above
