What are the most extreme examples of fighters rehydrating? As far as the difference between their weigh in, and fight night weights? Reason I'm asking is I'm watching Martinez vs Chavez Jr again, and I've never seen such a disparity. Chavez Jr. is seriously cruiserweight size, or a big light heavy on fight night, yet made the middleweight limit on weigh in... They commented about how he is often 185+ on fight night, any other examples as extreme as him?

Gatti. Vs Gamache was alleged to have entered the ring almost 20lbs over the limit.

Gerald McClellan used to come in at 180+ as a middleweight and remain chiseled.

Chris Eubank would come in at 180ish as a super-middle and remained ripped.

Damn, genetically those guys must be gifted in that sense, because most people would be absolutely drained pulling that off. I mean many times fighters who weigh only 10 lbs more than their weight class have trouble making weight, so I wonder how those guys can pull that off? Eubank isn't a very extreme example, since that is a 12 lb disparity, but McClellan gaining over 20 pounds is crazy.

Josh Clottey used to come into the ring around 170 after weighing in as a welterweight.

How do these guys dehydrate and then rehydrate so much? Is there any information on that?

Water. Don't drink it to lose weight, drink it to gain it again.

    Your body is mostly water.

Didn't Pacquiao also cut a lot of water for his fights at the lower weights?

Do you think Eubank was overly bulky at a detriment to him?

Sure, but anything more specific? I can understand losing about 5lbs of water by not drinking for 12 hours, but how on earth can you lose 15 or 20lbs?

Its really not that hard. Its just perseverance. First you don't eat on the day of the weigh in. You need to cut out salt the few days before the weigh in. Then the most grueling part is cutting the water weight. Obviously not drinking liquids loses weight easily, also saunas, sweat suits and salt baths take a lot of weight off. UFC fighters tend to cut huge amounts of weight (think Chael Sonnen cut 20+pounds the night before the Silva rematch). I cut 8ish pounds on the day of my am fight a couple of months ago. Not a nice process at all.

Some people are just luckier / blessed / have certain genetics.

Some people can cut 15-25lbs of water weight and function fine. Some can only cut 5-10lbs before there body says no mas.

My friend who is an MMA fighter was cutting nearly 20lbs. And he told another friend of ours to hold the door to the sauna on him, and only to open it if he passed out. No matter how much he tried to beg, or push his way out.

20-25 Lb's is the max people are doing...

    Rios did 20 at 130...
    Broner used to do 15-20
    Chavez Jr

Rios used to not eat for a week... only chewing gum...

Think it's crazy... If you cannot eat for a week then your fighting at the wrong weight class... and your only fighting at that weight class to get the benefits of beating up little dudes...

I mean Rios lost alot of respect doing that when he didn't need to... Look how he is doing at 140 with his Alvarado win now...

The standard seems to be 7-14 lb's... Depends on the weight class.

Try it yourself... Just make sure you keep yourself cool orally with cold water or swimming..
